giving erythromycin - anyone done it/any medical people around?

Ds has been given a course of erythromycin which he is meant to have four times a day. On the bottle (generic instructions, not specifically for ds) it says to give every 6 hours. If I give him four doses in waking hours it will be every 3 hours. Please tell me I can do this and don't have to wake him up at midnight! Anyone know?

you don't need to wake him in the night, give immediately when he wakes up and last thing at night.

as an example:

7am 11am 3pm 7pm

that's four houry

or;
6am 11am 4pm 8pm

Oh brilliant thanks Belgo that's exactly what I wanted to hear! You're right, four hourly is very doable, think my maths is suffering this morning

yes, try and spread it out as much as possible but you don't need to wake him in the night because it's best that he sleeps to get better, and because his stomach will be empty at night and most medications should be given with a bit of food

spread it out as much as poss. Be aware that this antibiotic can be particularly rough on the stomach

Oh joy, his nappies are already horrific. I'm not even sure whether I should be giving it to him as I went to the docs because he was still coughing after a course of amoxycillin for a chest infection, she said his chest was fine but his ears looked inflamed and sent us off with some more abs . He's been waking in the night in pain though, which I thought was his teeth, but worried now that it was his ears so have started the course.. wish he could tell me what's wrong!

that antibiotic could be causing the diarrhea. Speak to your doctor

No, unfortunately they've been bad for a while, long time before abs or any illness! Not diarrohea really, just soft and copious!
