I've been waiting for my colposcopy appointment for 2 months (assume the changes aren't too serious, then?!) and it is tomorrow.

However not only am I bleeding (have Mirena, never know when 'AF' will come) but as of last night I have a small very painful external haemorrhoid.

Should I try and numb it and push it back in ... or even get DP to do it? I don't think I could get my legs on the stirrups at the moment. It's got bigger over the course of the day too.

I am in such a flap! Namechanged, sorry, but I am a regular poster.

I don't know about haemmorrhoid's I'm sorry ..

I know about colposcopys though and you will have to stirrup it

oh poor you .. could you get a docs appointment

PorpoiseOnEarth · 10/12/2007 16:52

You can push them back in if they're small. Should be easy..

Good luck with tomorrow - it's not as bad as you're imagining. Although I wouldn't put it down as one of my favourite lifetime experiences...

HereComeTheGirls · 10/12/2007 16:53

could try ice on it to try to shrink it down?

hellobellosback · 10/12/2007 17:06

Unless they have specifically told you to cancel your appointment if you have your period, go to the appointment!

Haemorrhoids are horrible, but so common. If you have something at home that will make you feel better, then use it, but don't start doing anything because you feel ashamed.

Lots of procedures are so undignified, but that's what doctors and nurses are trained to deal with.

Hold your head high, and I hope it all goes well!

ohsoembarrassed · 10/12/2007 17:41

I don't really know what to do about it anyway - I guess I would leave it and see if the pain eased normally, but I don't have the luxury of time!

I will try ice and see if it goes back in. hellobello - you are right, I know you are... but I can't quite get my sensible head to win out over my gut-response-embarrassment.

It is horrible feeling embarrassed. It's a hell of a lot better to feel embarrassed and go, than to wait till you get ill and don't care what they do to you, however undignified!

I've been through the mill a bit lately, and it has been ghastly, and doctors have been doing things to me that almost don't bear thinking about!

Good luck!

tbh the consultant will have seen it all before
I actually found the colposcopy a relative;y dignified procedure and did not even think about my bum!

sorry cant help more than that but good luck with it

I have had same thing. I had mirena and always used to come on when my colposcopy was due. Funny thing was I never needed a colposcopy until I had a coil. I had it taken out and smears have been clear ever since... am due for a repeat smear next week and I have a couple of small piles but they arent painful. Good luck - you cant usually have colp if on period but ring them first and see what they say.
