Braces pain

I've had my braces on now for around a year and a half and I can't seem to shake the pain of when they get tightened Everytime I'm left in excruciating discomfort and I do tend to have a pretty good pain tolerance but this is awful and soup becomes my best friend for a few days lol, if anyone else has experienced quite intense pain after what's the best solution.

This was my experience too. I ended up with wires sticking in me as I was eating, and there was always one place in my mouth where a wire was like poking in to it a little bit. Those blobs of wax just fall off.

It's not easy. I had days where I felt like, ok, I give up, just take them off. I had braces for three and a half years. As an adult.

2 squares of your fav choc wedged in the roof of your mouth is a mood lifter ime!!

All I can advise is the tell the orthodontist about your pain and if she says 'oh really? it shouldn't still hurt' be really assertive. They can put a fixed softer end on the wire to stop it hurting but all I ever got was ''oh? It hurts? REally? It shouldn't.'' Argh

I remember my friend in school always used bonjela to numb the pain. Possible ask the dentist about bonjela ?

I used ibuprofen and paracetamol when it was very bad. I seem to remember the worst pain being more at the beginning, after a while my teeth seemed to get used to moving. But I do remember feeling like I'd been repeatedly punched in the jaw at times and there were a few times the pain would keep me up at night. I remember thinking - how do teenagers put up with this? I think I heard it can hurt more as we're older though, something about teenagers still growing and teeth shifting. I could be talking rubbish though.

Normal.

Boots own version of bonjela has lidocaine but bonjela doesn't so is pretty useless. Sorry you're still finding it painful.

Yup I remember this pain from 30 years ago. I used lots of bonjella on the insides of my gums, took painkillers (probably paracetamol) and ate soup and ice cream. It wasn't enjoyable.

Another feeling I remember is once they were removed. That felt GREAT!

Alternating ibuprofen and paracetamol and take it before you attend your appointment. It's not ideal to have to do this every 6 weeks unfortunately but it should help. The wax is rubbish but if it is a case of wires digging in then this can be fixed by your orthodontist and you should not have to put up with it. I suspect it's more the pain of the teeth moving that you're experiencing though and as PP mentioned, teeth can more slower in adults.
