Hello

I have been googling this medication I am on and have this morning read quite a few different threads [not on Mumsnet].

Anyone have any experience with these?

I have been taking them for a few months now and would say I have gained at least 1.5 stone

More importantly does anyone have any experience of stopping these and if yes, did you have any bad side affects?

TIA

Yes. I am on it. I had horrible experiences with other ADs and this is the only one that helped with my depression. It has, however, caused me to gain weight. I've been on it for about 8 months and, despite gaining more weight than I am happy with, I don't want to come off it!

I have been prescribed Concerta (like Ritalin) to counteract the increase in appetite which helps a bit. I would prefer not to have to take more medication than I absolutely need but I need the Remeron. And I can't keep gaining weight. Therefore I also need the Concerta.

I doubt this helps you very much

You ok, Mellow?

fkokeshi · 17/12/2007 04:51

I was prescribed these a few years ago and didn't notice the weight gain thing at the time, but in retrospect, I suppose I was quite chunky.

I have the weirdest reactions to some meds though and they found out by a random blood test that it had made me neutropenic. I basically had NO immune defence and would have been unable to fend off a bacterial infection had I contracted one, so they took me off it quick smart. I was put onto escitalopram just after that so I don't remeber any horrible side effects.

I wouldn't worry about this though, I've had many unexplained things go wrong with my body including losing all of my hearing last year - with no known cause. My medical notes are like War and Peace!

Hope it goes ok for you, whatever you decide to do.

I used Remeron back in 1997 when it first came out. After a while, whenever I took a pill I got a sensation in my arms, legs and head like all of the blood was leaving them, then rushing back in, and then leaving again, in a cycle that lasted a couple of minutes and didn't stop. Also, my vision would get blurry when the blood rushed out, then sharp again, and there were sexual problems too. It got much worse with caffeine or over the counter decongestants, and back then I still smoked marijuana, which also made it worse. I told my doctor, and he actually increased my dose. It got so bad, I was having chest pains (not accompanied by anxiety) and getting so dizzy I'd nearly pass out. Finally, I stopped. The symptoms NEVER WENT AWAY! I have been suffering from this problem ever since. I can't drink coffee or alcohol, or use any drug that affects blood pressure or heart rate. The cycle of blood rushing to and from my extremities occurs every minute of every hour of every day. It's been like this for 11 years. All of the doctors I've seen tell me they don't know what the problem is. I've given up trying to figure it out, and I don't have health insurance anymore anyway. I'm 30 years old now. I get dizzy spells, I have blurry vision, trouble concentrating when the blood rushes out of my head, and I'll probably never be able to satisfy a woman in the normal way. If I die young of some heart related or vascular disease, at least it should be obvious what the cause is. Using Remeron was the worst mistake of my life.

I've been searching for answers for 11 years. If anyone has experienced anything like this, or if anyone has any information at all, please reply.

I found it a little bit difficult to read your full post. Please can you put a few paragraphs in and might be able to help you.

Are you taking medication at the moment?

Gosh that's quite heavy!

Panic Attacks?

Vertigo?

I know that your symptons started when you started Remeron but are you sure that perhaps, they didn't just worsen something that was already there? How do you now?

Ie. are you depression or anxious or just anxious about this?

Cannabis made no difference to remeron when I took them.
