Do BF newborns poo every day??

DD (4 days old) hasn't had a poo today but has had wet nappies. Is this ok?

Apologies in advance - i am suffering from PFB syndrome.

Yep, that sounds good, RGP. What were you doing before? Fingers crossed there's an explosion tonight!

Desiderata · 11/12/2007 21:38

Huge congratulations, RG. Welcome to the Twilight Zone

4 days, 4 months, 4 years, 40 years ... some people poo regularly, and some don't.

Mine was always (still is) as regular as clockwork. Two a day, every day. But it's neither uncommon nor worrying if your little girl doesn't come up with the goods on demand.

RGPargy · 11/12/2007 21:43

Munker - i was just giving her the one breast per feed, then offering the other one on the next feed.

She's still been waking up every 30 mins tonight and i've come to the conclusion that it's my latch that is the problem. I know that a bad latch can cause soreness etc, but i've had none of that so have assumed latch was ok. However, i really do think that she is sucking on the nipple rather than using the areola to get a good mouthful of milk.

Now i feel really guilty and feel like i've been starving her, poor little mite.

And to add the stress of me starving my baby, i've just discovered that DP has chicken pox!!!!

I've had it a few years ago so am hoping that DD wont get it from him (please tell me she wont!!). Could my day get any worse?!! I just want to cry!!!

OP posts:
AwayInAMunker · 11/12/2007 23:01

She's unlikely to get it from him, RGP. Bfing will afford her immunity, iirc.

You haven't been starving her, I'm sure. She wouldn't be weeing if she was starving and she would be unhappy and listless.

Don't cry, sweetheart - you've got a weeny baby and a lot on your plate - deep breaths and some chocolate, that'll help.

Hope your DP has chicken pox v mildly and is better v soon xx

RGPargy · 11/12/2007 23:37

Thanx for your kind words Munker . That's reassuring.

AwayInAMunker · 12/12/2007 09:28

Aww, RGP. Any poo in the night? How are you this morning?

RGPargy · 12/12/2007 09:33

No poos this morning. I'm a total wreck this morning lol. I've been constantly feeding DD approximately every 30 minutes - and that's the longest she went between feeds - each feed lasting 30 minutes in itself. This is the third night in a row that i've not slept before 5am so i think i've had 3 hours sleep in 3 nights lol. She's asleep now tho - just wish she would sleep in the evening, even if it was just for an hour at a time!! Graveyard shift TV isn't the most riveting!

AwayInAMunker · 12/12/2007 09:33

Can you get a bit of a snooze while she's asleep?

RGPargy · 12/12/2007 09:37

Yeah i did earlier, but now we're out of nurofen (for DP) plus sanity enducing items for me (chocolate, donuts, lucozade etc ) so i thought i might brave my first solo trip out of the house and walk to Asda. It might do DD good to get some fresh air.

A friend of ours recently had their second baby who only pood every 15 days for the first few months - they saw doctors who were not concerned though. It sounded pretty spectacular when it did happen mind you - don head to toe protective clothing and clear the room stuff [yurgh emoticon]!!

Seriously though, it varies enormously and as long as your little one doesnt seem to be in pain, I wouldnt worry.

Louandben · 12/12/2007 09:43

Sorry you are having such a hard time RGP - you must be exhausted. Is there anyone you can get to come round and give you a hand, even if its to keep an eye on DD while you have a walk or a bath for half an hour?

Louandben · 12/12/2007 09:45

And if you are still worried about the BF get back on the phone and demand a mw or health visit to come and see you to check how you are getting on.

RGPargy · 12/12/2007 11:01

Yeah i am pretty exhausted

I will give the mw who was clued up about BF a call later i think and see if she will come and help me.

I can hear DD's little tummy rumbling even just after a feed and i feel like such a failure!

They do rumble though, even when full. They're on an all-liquid diet - it's rumbly stuff!

But do give the clued-up midwife a call.

RGPargy · 12/12/2007 12:14

They do??? Well that's made me feel HEAPS better!!! What would i do without everyone's help on MN, eh?

I will deffo give clued up mw a call.

MIL is on her way over now to help.

Glad you've got some help - and yep, rumbly, squirty, leaky little blighters. Good job they're cute, eh?

RGPargy · 12/12/2007 19:32

YYYYYEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

WE HAVE A BIG POOEY NAPPY!!!!! Never thought i'd be so glad to clear up poo!! Also the mw came round today to weigh her again to see if she'd put on any weight. Apparently they're meant to put on 20g a day and in two days Ellie has put on 40g so she's spot on with that. I'm so pleased with her!!

Not so worried now. Phew. Thanx to everyone for your reassurance and advice. I was also told that my latch was absolutely fine too. Yay me!!!

OP posts:
geordiemacminxpie · 12/12/2007 20:36

No wonder she has put on 40g..... she probably had half a pound of sh*t rumbling about

PLeased she is ok though

TEUCHywithallthetrimmings · 12/12/2007 20:53

AwayInAMunker · 13/12/2007 09:07

BRILLIANT!!!!!

Well done, RGP!

That's it now though...floodgates are open...

RGPargy · 13/12/2007 11:29
