Ds has a split toenail - am I being PFBish if I go to the Dr with him?

Ds has peculiar little toenails (both are very thick and an odd shape compared to the nails on the other toes). I have a bit of a squeamish issue with nails, so I was a bit concerned on Friday when I saw that he had lost half of his little toenail (vertically, not horizontally, if that makes sense?). It's right down to the base of the nail, and there's a tiny scab just where the quick should be. It doesn't seem to be bothering him at all, in fact I tapped it (gently!) to see if it was causing him any pain and he didn;t seem to notice.
I'm just a bit worried that he could get an infection or something, but I'm aware that it could just be PFB syndrome!

Personally, I think it would be a bit PFB to take him to the doctors with a split toenail Especially as it's not infected and is not hurting him at all.

I am notoriously lax in my taking-to-the-doctors standards though.

Leave it it will heal and grow back again if its not bothering hiom, don't let it bother you!The GP wouldn't do or give anything anyway unless there was an infection which it doesn't sound there is.

Keep an eye on it. If it looks manky, think again but should just grow back.

How old is your DS? My DS decided to unload the fridge and he dropped a jar of something on his toe. It took ages, but the toenail looked gross and gradually fell off (took months). I didn't take him anywhere, it is fine now. He was about 17 months when he did it.

I realised that it looks like I'm taking the p*ss, especially if you read it and think I'm talking about a bit of flaking! But nails do turn my stomach and my brother ended up having a toenail removed as a teenager, which I think may have scarred me for life!

Ds is 2 and a bit. I'll leave it be for now, then and see what happens....

so based entirely on some advert I must have seen somewhere, apparently fungal nail infections can look like this and your gp can prescribe anti fungal stuff, so yes, you should get the gp to check it out. know just how you feel about it though. i had a nail infection recently and self treated it with tea tree oil, it seems ok now, i just dabbed it on liberally for a few weeks, you could give that a go? how old is your ds?
