2 year old with diahorrea - what should/shouldn't she eat

My 2.3 DD has had diahorrea (bright yellow, wet and pasty, sorry if TMI) for the past couple of days. Other than her upset tummy she's pretty much her normal self and doesn't seem to feel particularly unwell. She was sick once yesterday but otherwise it's just the diahorrea.

She's not really been interested in eating anything much for the past couple of days and I know that the most important thing is that she keeps drinking, but the only drink that she really wants is milk - am I right in thinking that she should be avoiding dairy?

Any adive please, on what are the best foods to give her, and what should I be avoiding?

Thank-you in advance

fairy - here's a thread I contributed to yesterday herewhich might help with tips for dealing with vomiting - I think the same rules apply for diarrhea but someone more knowledgeable should hopefully be along to help you out.

Personally - I would go with your gut and cut out the dairy - if you're worried she won't drink, why don't you try giving her watered down milk or a non-dairy type milk?

Wish her better soon

Not an expert at all, so hang in for those who are, but my Mum (queen of all old wives'tales but usually right!) used to say nowt but water and plain bread/toast for sickness and diahorrea. I always thought dairy wasn't very good in this situation but no medical fact to base that one. Keep trying to get water down her meantime, even if just a teaspoon at a time.

i think the thinking nowadays is what ever they fancy. It used to be steer clear of dairy products, but seems to have changed last time i looked..

have you tried rice?
flat coke?

I am not an expert and very new but I agree with the others that dairy is probably not right. I think just water and the plain bread toast. But I was also told that when they are getting better they need to have plain veg eg mashed pots without any butter. But not a doctor. Wish her better.

A Swedish friend told me that apple and bananas work well for d and v and I have had some success with this.

Then bioyoghurt to get all the flora back in the gut.

Sorry - this may not help much as you started this thread days ago, but I have always been told to stick to the BRAT diet when ds has stomach problems.

Bananas
Rice
Apples
Toast

with water, ideally taken in small amounts rather than lots in one go.

And avoid dairy until things calm down. Stewed apples are good, but try not to add sugar as that can upset stomach.

Hope she is feeling better - it is always miserable when their tummy's are not right.
