Thumb-sucking DS has a small cut on his thumb . How can we help it heal?

That's it really. He's 16 months old and only sucks his (wounded) left thumb. The cut is looking a bit soggy and inflamed (not badly....yet).

I'm guessing we just have to stick a plaster on it with some sudocrem. He is going to go ballistic though

Please tell me there's some magic solution to this.

Argh - plaster/sudocreme plan did not go well. He's just been chewing, biting and pulling at it, and eventually managed to loosen it a bit.

Have taken it off as I don;t want him swallowing/choking on it when he's asleep.

Hmmm. This is going to be tricky.

What are the chances of it healing despite being sucked frequently?

I just asked DD who still thumb sucks (I'm hoping she'll give it up when she turns 18 in Feb!)
She says she's had cuts on the thumb she sucks & doesn't remember them taking longer to heal.
I thik saliva may actually help healing, bearing in mind the number of animals that lick their wounds.

Oooh that's just what I wanted to hear

I shall now turn off the laptop and walk away singing la la la just in case anyone decides to contradict you

BTW my little sister still sucks her thumb. She's 29 lol. In fact I think she still has her blankie too. She's training as a Clinical Psychologist
