Pink Eye Help!

Hi everyone, this may actually be my first post on Mumsnet waves lots! Well, I appear to have pink eye, and contrary to the advice of the pharmacist it appears that (on checking with a Sunday GP) I cannot actually take Chloramphenicol for it while breastfeeding - thank goodness for the internet and me being paranoid enough to check the drug out before taking it!

As far as I have now been told there is a drug I can take if it gets worse, and will go and see my GP when I can get an appointment in a few days time, however, it struck me that there might be an odd, if possibly gross solution to the rather uncomfortable scraping aching feeling currently in my left eye...

I read everywhere that putting breastmilk in babies' eyes clears up allsorts, including conjunctivitis... does this also work for the mothers' eyes? Has anyone ever tried this and does it actually work?

Thanks! :O)

Daki

Incidentally, I am also avoiding Worcester Sauce, don't want any zombies running around out there! (South Park fans only ;p)

chloramphenicol only goes in the eyes and I imagine it not doing any harm to baby as the traces of it getting into bm seem very small

I would just put it in my eye if it where me.

Breast milk is full of antibodies, so may help, its worth a try.

Hi

my ds has pink eye quite bad, his eyes stick together after every sleep/nap and run in between. Found quite a few sites that say the stuff you can put in your eyes will only reduce the symptoms by about 1 day and sometimes not at all. If you are worried don't use it but wash with warm water regularly. Also use different towels etc to everyone else and wash them seperatley to avoid spreading as contagious.

Good luck
