Don't see why not. Baths with bicarb in are meant to help IIRC.

DiscoFever · 09/12/2007 10:42

yes, i have heard that. thanks .xxxxx

baths are soothing when they are spotty and itchy - add Bicarb as Nab says or some porridge oats in a sock (!)

don't make the water too hot, and pat her down after rather than rubbing

also, some calamine will help

littleboo · 09/12/2007 10:44

yes bathing is fine as long as its not too uncomfortable for her

tepid baths are great with bicard or run through oats, then pat dry. When dd had it she was in and out of a paddling pool .

Both my DD's had chicken pox recently. DD1 got it first (she is nearly 4) and the spots lasted over 2 weeks. I still bathed her every night, bicarb in bath.

DD2 got it 3 weeks later (she was 4 months) I didn't bathe her as often and the spots cleared up/dried out a lot quicker.

Could be because she is younger but I think keeping them dry helped.

If you think the bathing eases the itching then go for it but if not then I wouldn't bathe every day.

Piriton syrup seemed to help DD1 she didn't complain much when she had it.

Hope they clear up soon.

thanks for all advise. i am worried the water might agrevate spots - have been giveing piriton to her which is fantastic stuff. Should i put the calamine lotion on even if they are not itchy?

Calamine tends to make them itchy as it dries IME so I didn't use it with DS when he had chicken pox earlier this year.

Piriton and lots of baths with bicarb in did the trick. In fact he had several baths a day as it was a great distraction as well as soothing. Just be careful not to rub the skin with the towel afterwards, just dab it gently.

my kids practically lived in the bath when they had chicken pox. Put bicarbonate of soda in the water it helps to dry the spots up and I also made a water/bicarb paste and gave them a paint brush and let them paint themselves.
They were very disappointed when they got better in fact I remember my DD started drawing spots on her body to have the special baths again!!

You could try the calamine aqueous (spl?) cream which doesn't go all crusty like the lotion.
