Sinusitis- nothing helps!

I have had a cold since Wednesday. Cough and runny nose. Negative PCR on Thursday.

Since Friday, I have had excruciating pain in both cheeks. My cheeks are red and warm to touch, but I don’t have a fever. Ibuprofen and paracetamol aren’t touching it. A hot shower or breathing steem help while I do it, but then the pain comes back. Ovitrine loosened the mucus in my nose a little, but didn’t help with the pain.

Yesterday I had a call with the OOH GP. He said there’s nothing he can do. Just keep taking ibuprofen. Is there really nothing to do? I’m lying here awake all night crying with pain. I can’t remember the last time I was in so much pain

In pregnancy I used to put an ice pack or frozen peas on my face for sinusitis. It really helped

Not a comfortable feeling at all but helps

A decongestant is what you need OP, something like Sudafed

You have my sympathy, sinus pain is awful

A neti pot is the only thing that helped and lots of pain relief. Took a long time to go and it is hell so my sympathies are with you 💗

Be careful with nasal irrigation if you have a sinus infection. It's not suitable for everyone, no matter what the yoga students tell you, and can be harmful. Do your research, and don't fall for the marketing around special sachets to add to the water you rinse with. If it's going to help you, ground pink salt is all you need.

Don't rely on ibuprofen in the short term for pain relief from inflammation. You have to take it like clockwork for a few days and it has to build up in your system before anti-inflammatory effects really kick in. It's safe to take paracetamol and /or codeine alongside the ibuprofen, and they will deal with the pain. Just be sure to follow guidelines, such as taking the doses of ibuprofen 2 hours apart from other painkillers, for example. And only 4 hourly doses of each, no more than 4 doses of each in any 24 hour period, etc. Hope you get relief and peace very soon OP, sorry you're in so much pain.

I was told to take beconase steroid spray for my chronic sinusitis. It worked for me.

For my acute infection, after antibiotics I was prescribed avamys, which finally cleared it. Try the beconase as it’s OTC.

Oh you have my sympathies. I suffered terribly with this when pregnant. I couldn't take ibuprofen but the pain and constant feeling of being blocked up was just horrendous. I felt like I was dying at one point, no joke.

Keep on top of the painkillers - take them at the recommended intervals. I would recommend Otrivine nasal spray and Difflam throat spray.

I'm always bleating on about Neilmed sinus rinse. Works a treat for me. I have to do it once a day at the minute.
