Bruxism, chronic tiredness, aches and pains what is it?

Thighdentitycrisis · 08/10/2021 16:04

Im so pissed off with my energy levels, and it’s been going on for weeks. I have a fairly stressful job but I don’t feel particularly stressed at present

I have taken TOIL this afternoon as I’m too tired to concentrate and the past few weekends I just rest to try and preserve energy for the next week
My face aches permanently, I clench my jaw and my teeth are worn down. My body aches even after a full nights sleep

I’m on AD ‘s long term and don’t feel like it’s related to them

I exercise, eat healthy food. What am I doing wrong? So fed up with my body

What age are you OP? I am thinking the perimenopause?

Pollywants · 08/10/2021 16:38

Do you have a night guard for when you sleep? They are expensive and take some getting used to but they will save your teeth and prevent headaches.

I had to get one because I was waking up with all day almost migraines from grinding.

Bruxism IS exhausting!

HateJudgmentalPeople · 08/10/2021 16:40

Perimenopause can affect just about everything, the bladder, the gut, joint aches and pains, sore teeth, insomnia, anxiety, and the list goes on!

doadeer · 08/10/2021 16:46

Could be many things it's pretty hard to say. I feel like this as I have a chronic pain condition I'm trying to fix but the energy level is so hard to deal with.

Have you ruled out everything obvious at GP?

AmberLynn1536 · 08/10/2021 16:52

Since I’ve hit 50 I’m the same, always something wrong, despite healthy diet and regular exercise it’s just one thing after the other.

Pollywants · 08/10/2021 16:59

Amberlynn That's what I feel like, too, at 47. I think I am falling apart!

Thighdentitycrisis · 08/10/2021 18:11

Thanks all Ive just been for a nap
I’m 55 and through the menopause! To be honest I just got used to putting everything down to that, but should be over now.

@doadeer I havent been to the GP yet What should I be looking to rule out do you think?

@Pollywants - I think I should look into it, did you try any off the shelf guards or go straight for a made to measure?

I’m just not sure where to start - what is causing this Bruxism

I have one made at the dentist so it fits perfectly. It's hard wearing so worth it if you have bad bruxism.
In a pinch the store bought ones work as well, they just don't fit very well. I had to use one for a couple weeks. It was okay. If you cannot afford the professional one I would definitely try store bought.

Well I think tiredness can always be linked to :
iron levels
Vitamin d levels
Thyroid.

It's worth having a blood test to check all is ok? As the first two are easy to fix

Pollywants · 08/10/2021 18:27

What causes bruxism? I think stress aggravates it. For me at least.

AllMonthLong · 08/10/2021 18:31

I’ve had periods of feeling like this. Low vitamin D was the cause first time and a high dose of it sorted me right out. Low iron was the cause last time and that’s been harder to sort out.

KatieKat88 · 08/10/2021 18:34

Teaching stress caused bruxism for me! Still do it occasionally if I'm having a stressful patch with DD (now a SAHM)

Also B12/folate levels.

Have you tried taking a herbal iron supplement like Floradix and a Vit D spray? Do you have a mouthguard for your teeth?

Bruxism is a common side effect of SSRIs like Fluoxetine (and others) so you might want to look at that. Ime, chronic fatigue was also a side effect of Citalopram.

Thighdentitycrisis · 08/10/2021 18:55

Yes I’ll get some floradix - I didn’t know AD’s could cause it, I’m not on an SSRI though and have ground since I was a child

I think I’ve just been ignoring it for too long and stress has crept in at the same time

It’s so draining physically and mentally, all these things going wrong makes me anxious which make symptoms worse, it’s a vicious cycle.

Tips I found really helpful on Vitamin D and iron.

Vitamin D tablets are useless. They don't metabolise. Use the spray that you spritz under your tongue or against your cheek. D-Lux has two strengths. get the stronger one if you are really deficient. It changes how you feel within 24 hours. Amazing stuff.

Use a plant-based iron supplement. Floradix is way the best. the capsules are cheaper and easier than the liquid and often on 3 for 2 in Boots (still expensive but worth it.) NHS iron tablets cause constipation which in itself leads to sluggishness. Floradix doesn't. And it works very well. I use Boots own brand called Feroglobin if Floradix is out of stock. It's also good and a lot cheaper.

Lack of magnesium
