How did you suspect you were coeliac?

I think I may be. Stomach cramps (and worse) after eating. Its got to the point i rarely eat breakfast and have a banana for work incase of a flare up. I will make an appointment with gp or is there a test I can do at home that's reliable ?

My mum was diagnosed by a blood test at the doctors. She was really tired, no energy etc. No pain in stomach at all which is commonly a sign. I was tested but I'm not coeliac but my gp thinks it can run in families.

Constantly exhausted and a bit of bloating when I ate a lot of bread. I would never had guessed. Diagnosed through blood check for tiredness.

Fatigue , excruciating stomach pain after eating , smelly greasy yellow poos, terrible farts after drinking milk and bubbly guts

If you're still eating gluten don't stop before doing the blood test! You will need to eat quite a lot for a period of months if you want to get an accurate result.

Bloating, exhaustion, b12 deficiency and TMI but let's just say I'd be running to the bathroom after eating gluten.
I bought a home test at the pharmacy and it was positive then went to the doctors to have it officially diagnosed. You have to keep eating gluten through the testing process (that's what I was told).

It may be Ibs also, I thought I’d had coeliac as my Nan had it and it’s very common in people with my medical condition. But then I noticed the cramps were never after I ate gluten, more the timing of eating, stress and only certain things. It was Ibs.... I get flare ups 3/4 times a year which can be really painful. Sometimes I get cramps here or there but they are manageable.

Constant cramps and mouth ulcers

nodogz · 07/10/2021 22:36

The clues: Very anaemic and low in b12, close relative diagnosed, insomnia, sensitive tummy, mouth ulcers

The diagnosis: Blood test was positive. Gave up gluten and insomnia and mouth ulcers disappeared overnight.

The confirmation: had to eat gluten for biopsy (against my better judgement but also thought baguettes!) and made myself really poorly. My colleagues said I got paler by the day and were quite worried about me.

Now gluten free but still very anaemic. I know if I've been accidentally glutened as I get mouth ulcers and constipation almost the day after

Forgot to say I also had low key stomach ache all the time on gluten. Just a bit bloated and uncomfortable. I'd lived so long with it I didn't notice it. It's loads better to be rid of it now.

MyBabyBoyBlue · 10/10/2021 22:47

Exhausted, bloated, terrible stomach cramps every time I ate anything (not just gluten), very anaemic and quite foggy headed generally. I had never heard of coeliac disease before but my amazing GP ordered the blood test which came back positive, this was nearly 20 years ago when it wasn’t as widely known about or considered, really.
See your GP and ask for the blood test. They usually diagnose with a biopsy too, they did with me regardless of the positive blood test.

I was literally falling asleep everytime I ate a meal, my face was covered in red rash/spots, very large stools which were greasy and smelt awful, anemic, very dry skin especially on my hands and weight loss too

losingthemind · 10/10/2021 23:19

I'd suspected for a few years that gluten made me feel bloated, constipated, and generally rubbish. However leading up to being diagnosed, I would have stomach aches during the night, needing to go to the loo more often, particularly at night. Real brain fog, extreme fatigue. Then I finally linked a week long headache that would not shift by taking paracetamol, to eating pizza, after it happened two times in a row. Positive blood test, followed by positive biopsy.
