Stiff / sore joints

I've had aching wrists for over a week now and it's not showing any sign of improvement. I thought it started after I'd done a weights and kettlebells session so put it down to that but that would have gone by now (I'm no stranger to exercise related aches!). I also had a physio exercise to do which was on all 4's so stopped in case it was that. They're stiff in a morning and even picking up a full kettle hurts.
My feet are always stiff when i get out of bed in a morning and also if i've been sitting for any length of time (I literally shuffle to the bathroom until they warm up!).
Is this just old age setting in??

Mine started being more like this in peri menopause.

emmathedilemma · 07/10/2021 21:30

Hmm that’s what I’ve been wondering @SpongeBobJudgeyPants I’ve had bleeding issues for the last couple of years which was put down to fibroids but didn’t improve much with treatment. I’m sure I’ve had a couple of blood tests which said I wasn’t peri menopausal but that was a while ago. Last period was very late but I’ve just come off the mini pill and had covid jab so put it down to that……maybe not though…..
My feet get stiff but not sore whereas my wrists are quite painful.

Take vitamin D supplements. Will definitely help

emmathedilemma · 08/10/2021 08:21

I take a multivitamin with vitamin D daily

What age are you? Blood tests for peri menopause are unreliable as in pm hormones fluctuate wildly from day to day. That’s part of the reason for symptoms!

Doctored are supposed to treat in symptoms from 45 plus.

Caramellatteplease · 08/10/2021 09:08

Usually the ones with Vitamin D included are too small to have much of an impact. You need a high strength. DD needed a double strength high dose.

emmathedilemma · 08/10/2021 09:38

44 @MadamBatty but been having issues with bleeding for the last few years
Will look for higher strength vitamin D, I'm always a bit cautious of taking the really high ones. Can your "overdose" on such things?? I eat well and get a fair amount of sunlight so should get some from those sources too.

I think, IIRC blood tests aren't that reliable for peri/menopause detection. Maybe a posting on the Menopause board will find someone more knowledgeable than I. I see Madam Batty has put it better than I would. I know most people apparently don't get enough vit D. I take the D6 from Holland & Barret, and take above the recommended dose. I recently had my levels checked, as its a good protective against Covid, and levels were fine, but not too high. I had it done by a private company as a one off.

MadamBatty · 08/10/2021 12:07

Come on over to the menopause boards. Sore stiff joints are definitely a peri menopause thing. It’s to do with declining oestrogen that cause declining collagen production to support your joints.

Diet & exercise can help but HRT even more .

emmathedilemma · 08/10/2021 12:30

I've just found it @MadamBatty the thread about peri-menopause makes me think this is it. I generally do a lot of exercise but sort joints and a general lack of energy is making it somewhat prohibitive, there's no way I could have done a weights session or anything with weight on my hands (pilates etc) in the last couple of weeks.

Just be aware that I put my sore joints down to the menopause and over exercise for several months - it was actually inflammatory arthritis, so maybe worth having some blood tests to see if you have some inflammation going on if it doesn’t settle.

MadamBatty · 08/10/2021 14:27

Burtknowsbest I also have RA but menopause definitely magenta things a lot worse

Burtknowsbest · 08/10/2021 17:36

Absolutely Madambatty, which is why I saw my GP first for HRT hoping that it would help. It was only when I got no relief and my joints worsened that I realised something more was going one.
