Hi guys I’m getting a tonsillectomy tomorrow and I’m very nervous.
I’ve been researching and apparently they clamp your mouth open during the operation , this worries me as what if they break my jaw or something I feel like my mouth won’t open wide enough should I tell the surgeon this before the operation ? . Thank you
And please let me know :(
From a very nervous lady 🤣😭

Our son had a tonsillectomy and adenoids removed on his 6th birthday.
No problems at all, sitting up and smiling the next morning, eating cornflakes the day after and back at school in two weeks. Prescribed high strength paracetamol and ibuprofen for home but didn’t need either from about day 4.
Solved his sleep apnoea and his quality of life improved no end (as did ours).

It’s a very tried and trusted procedure, your surgeon and their team know exactly what they’re doing and you’ll feel so much better very soon afterwards.

All the best 💐

Ah, lovely, it is nerve wracking. But perhaps, stay away from Google.

The surgeon who will be performing your op will have done it countless times before. They are experts in the anatamoy of your head, jaw and mouth. They do not want to break your jaw.

By all means, talk to them about it. But for now, try and focus on the here and now. Take some deep breaths. If you're having them out, they must be causing you some considerable bother and all of that bother will be gone. It has got to be worth it, right?

Also, it's very hard to be anxious if you sing. So maybe put some music on and sing along to calm your nerves. I hope that doesn't sound flippant, it's meant to be helpful.

It'll be over before you know it and, you won't have a clue what went on, because you'll be blissfully out of it.

Let us know how you get on.

Don't worry you will be fine.

They perform this operation on children's mouths

By all means tell the surgeon of it puts your mind at ease but I'm sure the surgeon heres this concern on every tonsil operation

Good luck

I’ve always heard that the recovery is more difficult for adults. Poor you. I hope you feel better soon. Flowers

That's fantastic OP it's all done and dusted !

Out of curiosity did you ask the surgeon if your mouth would open wide enough ?

Rest up and relax , and always remember there are lots of different ice cream flavours to get you through

No I felt a bit silly to ask haha . ❤️
