In a cold panic, can anyone help? (meno)

Hi, have name changed.
I am trying to keep calm but this one knocked me for six. I don't usually worry about health stuff so pretty freaked out.

My last period was around 17 months ago. No issues and very few changes other than a few mild hot flushes last year. Had a very easy time of it I suppose. My periods had been petering out for about a year prior. Mentioned it to Dr a while back and she said that would be meno and don't worry.

However, tonight I felt a wet spot down below, instinctively felt there and something light yellow appeared. Investigated further, to check if it was from the vagina by inserting a bit of tissue. It came out with a few little streaks of dark brown stuff on it. Like the mucous beginnings of what used to be a period for me. Only a bit, but it is definitely from up there.

I do have IBS so can't tell at moment if there's any period-type pain.

Have read info basically telling me I could have various cancers with dark discharge if a year from meno. I am going to contact GP but can anyone help me feel calmer about this, I need to get through the night?

More info:
I am 47, last period 17 months ago.
My sister and mother both stopped in late 40's.
I still feel a bit 'young' for post meno bleeding. Is it not at all possible it is a last period? I guess not.

I also read that a woman under 50 is only considered in meno if no period for 2 yrs, but if over 50 it is one year.
What is true?
Im so confused and in a panic, hope you can help.

Similar happened to me, dark blood after 18 months from LP, although think I was 51ish. Sent to hospital for hysteroscopy - all fine. Call GP for reassuring checks.

Don't panic

Gp might put you on the two week pathway to rule out cancer but this doesn't mean you have it.

Go to gp, let them carry out their checks, don't worry about the very worst case scenario - like with any odd symptoms, it could be many things.

You'll be OK.

Same happened to me, although I was over 50/under 55.
GP referred me to gynaecologist, had internal scan followed by hysteroscopy and MRI.
Pre cancerous cells and therefore had a hysterectomy.
Do please get it checked out.
You will worry, no doubt, but it could be something innocent as well.

I had some bleeding, like a very light short period, 13 months after my previous period. Had an appointment with a GP, was asked lots of questions to check if I had any other symptoms at all (I had none), and was advised that it doesn't count as post menopausal bleeding until 2 years after a period, as I am under 50. If I were you I'd make an appointment with your GP to discuss it and to rule out anything sinister, but also try not to worry too much as it could just be a period.
