Anyone had a tongue tie snipped as an older child/adult?

My 14 year old has a tongue tie. We had the option to have it shipped when he was a baby but the Doctor didn’t think it would cause him any issues so we left it. He has just had his braces removed and given retainers but they are rubbing on his tongue tie causing an ulcer. I’m going to contact the orthodontist but my son mentioned he would like it cut and has read this can be done by laser. Just wondered if anyone has experience of this.

One of my kids did at 12 or 13yo. No issue at all and no pain or discomfort, just had soft food for a while. They had tongue exercises to do for a period of time so it didn’t reattach as it healed (even though tissue had been layered off). Reason for it seems similar to your but orthodontist wanted it done before the braces went on.

Had mine cut at 12 when I got my braces on. No biggie. Done at the dentist, numbing and snip with scissors. Can’t remember being in pain afterwards tbh

I had mine done at 11 under a general anaesthetic, and like HoppingPavlova’s DC had to learn to use my tongue afterwards.

There was a bit of discomfort I think but not for long.

My child’s was just done in the chair by an oral surgeon. Local anaesthetic and laser. They have SEN and I was sceptical about the chair but the guy was great and was no issue.
