tummy ache following a kidney infection. Should I be worried?

DS1 (3 in jan) had a kidney infection 4 weeks ago (which presented with him having a febrile convulsion -scary!). He had a day in hospital, loads of tests (which found he had a very high white cell count) and was prescribed antibiotics. He was much better by the time the antibiotics finished and has had two clear urine tests and an ultrasound scan that showed nothing untoward since then. However, he has been complaining of tummy ache ever since, always in the same place just to the right of his tummy button. When I last went to the docs she suggested I give him calpol as a matter of course, but I can't go on doing that for ever so I've been giving him a hot water bottle to cuddle if he does say his tummy is sore.

I have a feeling that it is cause by anxiety as he tends to complain if he is tired (at bedtime or if he wakes in the night) or if he is worried (like when he had to go for the ultrasound). I realise that my worrying about it will only make it worse if it is stress that is the problem so DP and I have resolved not to talk to him about it unless he brings it up and not to talk about it in front of him. BUT if it is something else and I've been ignoring it I'll be a terrible mummy so needless to say I'm going round in circles worrying, telling myself not to worry, worrying about not worrying and on an on...

Any advice?

So was he already complaining of this tummy ache when he had his last clear tests? If so, then it would seem that there is not a serious problem. They have little tummies that can take a while to recover from all the inflammation ect... Is he okay with going to the loo still, and is there a link between wanting to go to the loo and getting a the pain?
You might be right about the stress - and if it is this then it will probably resolve itself when he forgets about the ordeal. Get well wishes xxx

He's been complaining of tummy ache since he first became ill - when it was definitely connected to the infection. The pain doesn't seem to be connected to actually weeing, though sometimes if he does have a wee he says his tummy is better afterwards. I do think it is stress and am trying to just let him forget it but just want to be sure, so thanks for your reassurance.
