I work in early years and as predicted the amount of runny noses and illness is worse than ever this term. The parents don't seem to care and send them in regardless and I am now feeling horrendous with a really bad thick cold!! I have a half marathon in 2 weeks which I should be training for and my online degree starts today so I need to get myself better asap! Has anyone got any advise, anything that has helped them as I desperate to shift this!!

I have it too. Sterimar is helping me a little. Lots of water and hot drinks.

orangejuicer · 02/10/2021 10:29

Water, paracetamol and lots of rest. Just stop. I know it's not practical but it's the only thing I've found to help.

Best way to shift snot is to steam, head over a bowl of boiled (slightly cooled) water for 10 minutes four times a day. Also avoid dairy because it can make mucus worse. Hope you feel better soon.

I have given up for the day. I did a bit of washing and tidying first then then have stuck to the sofa with tea and lemsip. I am watching crap and reading the internet and that is all.

I am lucky dds old enough to sort themselves out and be sympathetic. DH is mocking my dressing gown of doom but is keeping me topped up with tea and has just gone to get me a maccys apple pie

Hoping this helps as feel shite tbh

Sympathies to @Tinpotspectator and @RoyKentsHairyBack it's rubbish isn't it. I've dosed myself up on paracetamol and Sudafed, taken a berroca and got a sterimar spray. Done absolutely nothing too, fingers crossed to feeling better tomo.

Isn't it just. Real couch potato here

I also work in early years and have a stinking cold at the moment, I'm prone to them and have tried everything. You need day nurse capsules, really takes the edge off. You can take them during the day and night nurse liquid at night. Honestly, I've tried all other cold medications and this is by far the best I've found. Get well soon!

Spodge · 02/10/2021 17:26

Vicks First Defence nasal spray. Though for decent results you have to use it pretty much the instant you start suspecting you have a cold, so you may be too late.

MujeresLibres · 02/10/2021 17:33

No advice, but I had to take 2 weeks off training immediately before a half marathon and I did a decent time for me, you've done the work over the previous months, your fitness won't drop away now.

That's good to hear, having a cold is just frustrating and usually at inconvenient times. Hope you feel better soon.
