Could someone help with a chlamydia question

My DS (mid 20's) has told me all this today because he had been very worried. He doesn't normally share so much info with me but I'm glad he felt able to talk to me.

He's had a girlfriend for a while. (Same age - been together nearly a year.) When they first got together DS had a full STI test and all clear. Girlfriend said she would do the same but turns out she didn't.

She has now been diagnosed with chlamydia after having some pain and bleeding. Treatment organised. DS went to STI clinic today. They didn't test him but gave him the course of antibiotics and said to organise a postal test in two weeks to double check all clear.

He now wishes he had asked more questions so I said I would ask here :

  • is it ok that they didn't test him. He won't actually know if he had it (He knows it can be symptom free which he is.)
  • his main worry is that it will affect his ability to have children. Does anyone know how high this risk is for men?

Thanks

He'll be fine. It's more a risk for women as it can lead to pelvic inflammatory disease.

Thanks for answering - really appreciated.
Do you know if he should have a test earlier to see if he actually does have it in case he needs that info later. (He'll take the antibiotics anyway obviously)

The US CDC has a nice fact page on it
“Men rarely have health problems linked to chlamydia. Infection sometimes spreads to the tube that carries sperm from the testicles, causing pain and fever. Rarely, chlamydia can prevent a man from being able to have children.”

Go to www.cdc.gov/std/chlamydia/stdfact-chlamydia.htm. To read more.
