Sinusitis

Hi, I’m needing some advice, I’ve had what I think is sinusitis for the past week, symptoms are pain in cheeks, eyes and forehead, I phoned doctors this morning and nurse says because I don’t have any mucus in my nose it might not be sinusitis, is this true? I thought you just needed that pressure feeling in face and headache, she prescribed antibiotics but if it doesn’t go away then I’ve to go back! Anyone any remedies to get rid of this awful pain?

Thanks

I tried painkillers which were useless. The only thing that got rid of the pain was filling a bowl with boiled water and putting a thick towel over my head and steaming my face whilst taking slow deep breaths, it got rid of the pain for a few hours at a time.

Hope you feel better soon

I steamed for about 15 to 20 minutes each time, you'll just feel the pressure start to ease as you're doing it.

I have the same symptoms. Ive got a sinus wash. Sometimes helps. Sometimes not. Ibruprofen sometimes eases it. Following for recommendations

Thanks guys, the head pain is really concerning, nearly a week now! Just wish it would go now hopefully when I get antibiotics they will help, will give the steam a try too 🙏

I suffer from sinusitis and find paracetamol with a spray of Otrivine or Sudafed nasal spray helps to release the pressure but mine is definitely caused by blocked snotty sinuses.

JaneJeffer · 01/10/2021 14:40

Put some sea salt or Himalayan salt in the water when you're steaming.

TaraR2020 · 01/10/2021 15:06

If it's safe with your other medications/health conditions, you can combine paracetamol and ibrubrofen, they're great together, just space doses 6 hours apart. Ibuprofen works as an anti inflammatory as well.

There are some good sinus massage videos on YouTube you could try, but keep up with steam inhalations - in my experience anti biotics are brilliant

Hogwarts2021 · 01/10/2021 18:19

Tara how to I combine sorry if I sound silly? Do I take 2 tablets of each painkillers or 1 tablet of each the nurse mentioned this morning about taking the 2 together x

Otrivine is my best friend… I get sinusitis a lot and it hurts! Also the cheap version of Sudafed, which is a paracetamol, caffeine and pseudoephidrine combination.

I can only tell you what I do, which is to take the normal dose of each at the same time- then i don't take anymore for 6 hours.

Sometimes if I have pain which needs more than paracetamol to take the edge of I might take 1 ibrubrofen instead of 2 (half dose).

However, whether you take 1 or 2 tablets of each depends on the dosage in each tablet so you'll need to check the patient leaflets. There should be pharmaceutical directions online or you can drop in on your nearest 24h pharmacy.

Caffeine helps the body absorb paracetamol faster so a cup of tea at the same time isn't a bad idea.

Also, I'm no clinician so do check that you can take either painkiller with pharmacist advice.
