I am only 6 and half weeks pregnant with dc2 sickness started in week 5
now I am sick before and after every meal and every time I have to go into the kitchen...
I was ill with dd (now 17mths) but no where near this bad.

The doctor has prescribed me two different anti-emitics, cyclizine and prochloperazine both which have no effect/ made me feel worse, I feel totally un-help-able IYSWIM
at what point do I rock up to hospital and ask for a drip!!

During my 2nd pregnancy, I had only 3 weeks when I wasn't sick several times everyday.

The only thing I can say is you kind of get used to it. It becomes just one of those things you have to do like drying your hair, or going to the loo.

Ds1 started standing over the toilet making vomiting sounds. He would have been the same age as your DD.

The only thing I found that helped a bit, was to not let myself get hungry. To have something small to eat every hour, rather than 3 meals a day. I was still sick, but at least I wasn't bringing up a whole meal.

I am pg with DC2, now 22 weeks, still puking. I was puking very badly as you have described from week 5 - week 15 ish. The only way I coped was because my mum helped me a lot. Some days I could not actually move at all. I felt like I was going to die. I still feel very ill and un-human like, but I can just about manage without keeling over. Watch the colour of your wee it is not supposed to go orangey (if it does, I think it is dehydration) and get your DH to watch the smell of your breath (for ketones).

If you can't keep down fluids, you need to let the GP know. I know it's hard when you feel so awful, but if you don't make a fuss, nothing will be done.

Sorry to hear you are feeling so shite, I know how horrible it can be. Have you tried the bloomingawful website - hyperemesis support group? It's supposed to be very good.

Also second perpetualworrier's point about eating little and often. Aim to eat something every half hour or so - don't try to eat 'meals', that's probably unrealistic. Try getting someone to make you tiny portions of things (get your partner/husband/whoever to make them up and put them in a cool box or something so that you don't have to go into the kitchen): slices of apple, little pots of muuler rice or yogurt, plain crisps... don't want to list loads of food and make you feel ill, but you get the idea - neutral/salty tastes are good.

Aim to eat some protein if you can as it will stabilize your blood sugar.

I found that these gave me some temporary relief. And I just lived on bowls of cereal for the first 3 months. I just couldn't face eating anything else.

I really feel for you. I suffered really bad sickness for all of both of my pregancy's.

I too was prescribes anti-emetics, but need to have them injected as I was vomitting too often for them to actually stay in and work. Poor DH 3 times a day into my bum - he became an expert

Top tips from me:

Fizzy drinks
Do not drink and eat together
Small meals - little and often
eat what you fancy - keeping something in, is better than nothing
Accupuncture
Seabands
Aromatherphy - Smells could make me sick, but also calm me
No cooking - DH cooked I just warmed for DS1 and me

If your breath smells of nail varnish or you can not wee for 24 hours, then you must ring GP or out of hours.

I was in and out of hospital for rehydration and often found that this helped for a few days.

I hope you find some relief. I managed 2 pregnancys with it

im 20 weeks and have hyperemesis since i was 6 weeks, i was admitted at 8 weeks with severe dehydration gp checked my urine which showed ++++ of keytones and i was sent to the hosp where i had blood taken and was put on drip (which took 11 attempts as my veins kept collapsing from dehydration). i was on buccastem at the time but they chnaged it to metroclamide (sp?) whcih im still on now, i was vomtiing 20+ a day and now on the meds its down to 3+ a day. i have tried coping without my pills but i get worse, gp isnt keen on keep giving me the pills and wnats me on a lower dose of buccastem but these done nothing.

i suffered hyperemesis in my 1st preg and was admitted at 6 weeks, and put on a drip i was sick until the day she was born.

if ur worried about dehydration pop a sample along to ur gp who will let u know if ur dehydrated, i was losing weight also and the keytones is what told him i was dehydrated.

thanks guys...beginning to think I was the only one

I ended up in hospital last weekend for 3 nights being rehydrated as I was 4+ when I went in...I phoned them and asked to come in, my doctor wasnt interested! The sister said it was a good job Id gone in when I did.

I did feel better in hosp, all meals fairly small and cooked for you.
My kitchen is my biggest trigger, I just walk in and I need to vomit.
I am on maxillon now, I tried other a/emitics but they were rubbish. Sick bands didnt work for me either, I thro up about 5 times a day now, I am 8wks pg now so a long way to go.

flat coke worked for me - i usedbuccestam and would wait about an hour before having the flat coke. i could then eat a bit of something bland. i would def echo the little and often though

When I found out I was pregnant with my dd - I was desperate to have some pregnancy 'symptoms' as I couldn't quite believe I was pregnant. I bitterly regretted that 'wish' as from 7 weeks until 42 weeks I vomited every day - some days as many as 5 - 6 times. A few days - I spent the whole day in the bathroom trying my best to keeps down sips of water. I must admit it was great for weight loss - I weighed less at the end of pregnancy than I did at the beginning...... I had a fab time postnatally stuffing my face to get some weight on!!!

I found eating very small things throughout the day really helped. I hardly ever eat any junk food at all but the only think that seemed to keep me from constantly vomiting was regular snacks of 'quaver' crips.

I couldn't bear to be admitted to have a drip as I work on the maternity unit and I knew that if I managed to keep some fluid down I'd be ok. Looking back though - maybe I should have gone in a couple of times to get rehydrated. I just kept sipping, sipping and sipping tiny amounts of water.

I got prescribed pr stemetil and it did work and reduced my vomits per day considerably. I found maxalon (metroclopramide) and cyclizine didn't work at all.

I also had horrible heartburn - and I think that made me feel worse on the nausea side of things too. I was prescibed ranitadine too and this also worked well.

I sound like a bit of a wimp - but I'm not honestly - I didn't take any pain relief in my labour!

Anybody who has hyperemesis goes through such a horrible time. It's made me feel a bit nervous about becoming pregnant again.

Be careful about your pelvic floor though - constant vomiting put a lot of pressure on it when it's already weaker with pregnancy hormones and having to hold the weight of your pregnany. DO YOUR PELVIC FLOOR EXCERCISES!!!!!!! I unfortunatly didn't and now have a lovely pelvic floor prolapse.
