Exercise induced urticaria

The last few weeks I’ve noticed that whenever I exercise I have a red rash and hives all over my thighs, stomach and bum after. It’s not a heat rash and dr google suggests it’s exercise induced urticaria. Does anyone else suffer with this and have any tips? I’m currently just taking an antihistamine after my exercise class but don’t know if there is anything else I can do?

I get this.

It's worse on my face compared to anywhere else.

I've realised it's only when I do high intensity exercise so I've just stopped doing that! I stick to low intensity snd it suits me much better.

I get this when I go out running when it’s on the cold side-I always wondered why!

Interesting, I do hiit and Bootcamp type stuff and it is after that but I love doing it! My face doesn’t seem affected although I always get super red and sweaty. I really don’t want to have to change what I do 😩

Exercise and cold induced urticaria are both definitely a thing. IIRC antihistamines are the main treatments & I think can be used preventatively. Both can sometimes cause more alarming allergy symptoms. It’s prob worth speaking to your GP.

Not urticaria (although I get that the rest of the time), but sneezing and nose-running!! Really really badly, and not hayfever or anything, but actually triggered by higher-intensity exercise. Lasts for a few hours afterwards and I can go through a whole box of tissues.

so I understand the difficulty! It's hard enough to want to exercise in the first place, let alone when you're allergic to it.

I am trying lots of different antihistamines, including a nasal spray one that I got from an online doctor. It sometimes helps a little. I also have montelukast, and fexofenadine, as well as the over the counter antihistamines, and that helps my other urticaria.

Thanks guys, think I’ll keep an eye on it and see how the over the counter antihistamines go then see the Dr if not!

Ds gets this only his became very severe and he was sent by Ambulance to A&E.
He started out with the rash when exercising, then when getting overheated,/stress enduced/ Going from cold to hot or hot to cold as time went on getting worse.
Then he was at work and drank a glass of water, he was hot, and his face/eyes swelled immediatly, followed by lips and tingling tongue. Ambulance to A&E and after seeing the dematologist is on high doses of Antihystamines daily. He takes extra when he feels it coming on.
Go to the doctor and get some Fexofenadine for it.
