I've name changed as this is about my mother.
Since December last year my mum has been ill, on and off with gastro-symptoms and fever and shivers (rigors) incidents are getting an 1 to 2 weeks apart. After many GP phone consultations, she was given several courses of antibiotics. She was tested for a UTI. Treated for a UTI. Symptoms continued so she was referred for a scan which she had in March.
They found loads of gallstones and the person doing the scan indicated some urgency and that she would need to make an appointment with her GP. By May, when I saw her, she looked frail and had lost enough weight - unintentionally - to drop almost 2 dress sizes. Between March and August she continued to be intermittently unwell. She had numerous online appointments with different GPs. They seemed to be treating her for UTIs, prescribing antibiotics and ignoring the gallstones.
She continued to be ill and had numerous blood tests and eventually was booked for another scan for late August. A week before her scan she was more ill than she had been before and she ended up with jaundice. She ended up at A&E and was admitted for 6 nights. Multiple scans revealed her gallbladder had fused to her bowel. She was discharged and told her gallbladder would have to be removed under GA, but she needed to go home to get well. She did not get a date sent to her, so 3 weeks later she followed up to be told that as her gallbladder has fused to her bowel and colon there is nothing they can do.
What now? Has anyone even heard of that as a thing that happens? Dr Google does not reveal much. Could the delay in treatment have caused this complication?
