iron deficient anemia

Hello,

I had some blood tests come back and have been told my iron levels are at 98 which is dangerously low. I can't find anything online when I'm research iron levels that tells me what 98 mesures or any reference to 98 - I'm wondering 98 what? And what's the threshold for dangerous? What a healthy level? One doctor told me 120 but when I research it seems to be measure in different units or something?

Is it normal to have constant chest pains on the right hand side? I had these results back almost a week ago.

Thanks !

98 is low side of normal , not dangerously low
Most women have a level of around 120
Most men are around 140

Can you increase your iron rich foods ?
Green leafy veg , red meat especially liver

Iron supplements are ready available over the counter in any pharmacy

Don't worry about the black poo , it's normal while taking them 🤓

Try vitamin b12 and floradix. A b12 deficiency can cause iron deficiency. Also, dont drink coffee around the time you take iron, as this causes you not to absorb iron. Vitamin c helps you to absorb.

The measurement won't refer to iron. It will be a blood haemoglobin concentration (Hb) of 98 g/L.

The normal range for women is 115-165 g/L, so yours is low. You should also have had a measurement of serum ferritin to check whether your iron stores are depleted.

It would be usual to get a full blood count that includes number of red blood cells (RBC), average size of your red blood cells (mean corpuscular volume, MCV) and average amount of haemoglobin per red blood cell (mean corpuscular haemoglobin, MCH). If your Hb and RBC are low it indicates anaemia. If your MCH and MCV are low it suggests iron-deficiency anaemia. If your serum ferritin is low it suggests you've been iron-deficient for some time.
