Florencemai21 · 27/09/2021 00:14

My ears have been giving me slight irritation over last couple of days as my throats been hurting and picked up a common cold off the kids. Tonight my left ear is giving me excruciating pain I've had paracetamol and ibuprofen a hot water bottle on it as well
I've got four kids I know pain. This is awful.

It's wet inside my ear but noting pouring out of it and my jaw along the bottom left hand side is killing me too
No problem with my teeth tho

Like do I carry on with heat and pain relief or should I get this checked out now

Any advice would be appreciated x

Ear pain can be horrible.

My DD who is 12 spent 2 nights in hospital last week with an ear infection.

She had 48hrs of IV antibiotics and morphine. She was very poorly, vomiting and a fever over 39.
They also did a CT scan as they thought it had spread to the mastoid bone.

Luckily it hadn't.

She has had many ear infections and this was yet another middle ear one which perforated the ear drum.
Her ear was pouring with yellow pus.

Were now under the care of a specialist and she's currently off school for 2 weeks to avoid further infections/virus.

So from my experience I would say get it checked.

Ear infections can get very nasty.

Most times your body will fight it off, take pain killers and use a warm compress. But trust your instincts too, I would try and get a GP appointment first thing if you are in unbearable pain.

Hope you feel better soon.

Simple answer; yes, you should get it checked out as soon as you possibly can. If the pain is really bad call 111, or even get yourself to A&E if it becomes too much. Hope you feel better soon.

alexdgr8 · 27/09/2021 03:05

why did your partner say that.
ring 111. that's what it's there for.
good luck.

Florencemai21 · 27/09/2021 03:20

Doesn't do well when woken from sleep

I think my ear drums ruptured it's leaking fluid n cracking popping now but I'll have to wait til partner gets up

How are you doing OP? You really need to get this seen by a doctor ASAP - I would go to A&E or at least call 111 who will likely tell you to do so.

Florencemai21 · 27/09/2021 12:31

I've got an appointment at 2pm with my gp I'm just taking lots of pain relief and sleeping at the moment

You have my sympathy, I had an ear infection during the pandemic and spent two days dribbling and barely breathing. Tried every pain relief I could think of. Babies have my sympathy.

youvegottenminuteslynn · 27/09/2021 16:52

Oh bless you, it's absolutely awful pain isn't it. Really hope you feel better soon, poor you Thanks

bouncydog · 28/09/2021 03:33

I had similar a couple of years back. The pain was horrendous. Then my eardrum perforated and the relief was indescribable. Went to A&E and they gave me antibiotics. Really hope you get some relief OP.

Florencemai21 · 29/09/2021 01:38

I've got five days worth of antibiotics- I've had 7 tablets but I'm no better at all I'm still in pain it's still leaking fluid blood and now puss ...... even doctors said it would start getting better after a few tablets but I feel dreadful

My hearing loss feel like it's getting worse aswell

I just want to cry

Solidarity with you. Mines an outer ear infection, although as the ear drum wasn’t visible it could well be more. I’m nearly at the end of my ABs and not much has improved. And I have to drive DS to Uni on Friday. Crying seems like a good option.

naughty40me · 29/09/2021 14:49

Hi OP

My DD is recovered now thank you.

We see the consultant in a few weeks.

I would go back to the GP if the anti biotics aren't effective.

My DD has been given the wrong type twice before. Certain ones won't help if the infection is deeper inside.

Hope you feel better soon Flowers

Sorry to jump on this post as I know it’s a few weeks old, but can I ask what kind of antibiotics you were given? I’m currently in terrible pain with an ear infection. Was being treated for outer ear infection with an ear spray, but it wasn’t getting better so I saw a doc who looked and said I had impacted earwax and to use olive oil in the ear for 2 weeks.

Well after 3 days of that I lost heating in the ear and the pain was much worse and ear is now swollen. Doctor has prescribed ciprofloxacin hydrochloride drops to use for 7 days, then suggested using sodium bicarbonate ear drops to loosen the wax once the infection is under control.

I’m only on day one of the new drops so realise it’s too soon to tell, but the pain and pressure is so unbearable I want to cry. Hoping that this new medication is the right one!

fairyqueen · 13/10/2021 17:07

I’m still in pain with an infection but I pod privately for a specialist consultation and a vaccing out. Pressure is much better and easier to treat the infection now.
