If anyone has taken this, can you tell me what moisturiser you used that worked best.
Also, did you wear suncream regardless of the weather?
Any other advice or experiences would be great. Thanks

At one point I was using Elizabeth Arden’s 8 hour cream but that was usually at night. Day time I used cetaphil.
Yes, ALWAYS use sunscreen.
Carry moisturising eye drops and lip balm with you everywhere. Use frequently.

It does become a royal pain at a point but the end result is really worth it.

Cetaphil here
And factor 50 if I was going to be outside for any length of time but I took mine November - May in lockdown.
I personally didn’t find the facial skin or body was too bad but had awful lips. The best ever thing for them was Eucerin Aquaphor. Keep on top of them as once the lips crack it’s hard to get them to heal properly.
I also needed some eye drops on and off.

Loved the effect on my hair!

By the way, it wasn’t the most fun 5 months with the side effects but I’m really glad I did it and would do it again. Am still surprised now when I get my period since for so many years it was heralded by a big breakout and pus-sy spots on my chin or jawline, and now nothing.

Oh I also had joint pain, felt like an old lady with arthritic hips. But that was all temporary.

SomewhereInBrooklyn · 26/09/2021 13:07

Thank you both.

The dermatologist hadn’t told us about sun cream, it was the pharmacist who mentioned it so thought I’d ask. Off to Boots now so I will get some factor 50 in and the other items you’ve recommended. Thanks again, really appreciate it.

About the joint pain NautaOcts, that doesn’t sound good. Did it literally stop as soon as you’d finished the course or did it take a while to feel back to normal?

No from what I remember it went straight away.
I was still able to do my Zumba class for example and go for short walks, but long hikes would not have been comfortable. It was not so bad that I took painkillers but was more stiffness and discomfort when exercising. I don’t think everyone gets it but can be a common side effect.
With all the side effects my dermatologists advice was to see how I got on as then we could always continue on a lower dose (potentially for longer). You should also start on a lower dose initially then increase if you’re managing ok. That’s what I did.

I always wear sun cream no matter the weather. I tried Cetaphil, E45 and Aveno Oatmeal. The Aveno one is nice as it doesn't sting if your skin starts peeling. The other two are thicker so good for when skin is really dry but I found they stung if I had red sore bits.
Lip balm is another essential. I always have several with me of varying types.

greyinganddecaying · 27/09/2021 14:29

It's been years since I had roaccutane, but E45 everything (body wash, moisturiser etc) did the job, plus lots of lip salve.

My go-tos now would be the oatmeal aveno stuff a pp mentioned, plus burrs bees lip salve.

Babymamma192 · 27/09/2021 14:42

I would also get a hand cream...i got really dry hands when taking it. I used aveno hand cream too its really good moisturiser

FixTheBone · 27/09/2021 21:11

I took two courses of teh horrible stuff in my teens and early twenties, improved but didnt eradicate the acne.

As much moisturiser as possible, I seem to remember I had a body shop hemp one. Literally every mucus membrane gets cracked and sore if you neglect them, without too much detail blood on toilet paper, corners of lips, backs of hands....
