Weird adrenaline rush for no reason

Hi, I’ve just had a really weird episode. Was just pottering indoors and got a massive adrenaline rush, legs and hands really shaky pins and needles and heart rate spiked to 118 for no reason and I really felt like I was going to pass out. I was also covered in Sweat and clammy. No pain which is weird, even my usual pain went for a bit.

I do have various problems, chiari malformation, back issues and EDS but never had anything like this. Has anyone had this before, and any tips to feel better. Do I need to see a doctor today or can it wait til Monday do you think? Interested in experiences as it scared the crap out of me!

I had some similar symptoms a few years back. It was after I'd lost a lot of weight very quickly, so I always thought it was either that or lack of some nutrient or other. It happened a few times over a few weeks, then never happened again.

Probably best to get it checked out if you're worried though.

I haven’t lost any weight, not for lack of trying mind! Did you find it really scary as well? Thanks for your reply, it’s nice not to feel so alone. Sorry you went through it too thouhh

Hey could it be Postural tachycardia syndrome/autonomic dysfunction? It occurs alongside EDS. Could also be linked to mast cell activation syndrome which again sits alongside EDS/POTs.

TheTempest · 25/09/2021 15:23

It could be, I’m being investigated for dizziness and going Light headed when bending down, moving, and losing balance at the moment. I didn’t even think they could be connected! Thanks @Namechange600, I’ll speak to the doctor Monday and let her know about it.

No problem- there are a few Facebook groups you can join for these conditions too.
Dr Gall is the main Uk expert on POTs based at kings college London (I am under his care). Think there’s another in york.
Look up mast cell activation syndrome too as this can bring on a pots episode eg a reaction to food. If you look online high histamine foods/ drinks or histamine liberating foods / drinks can precipitate a reaction. Lots of GPs don’t know much about it though be warned!

Some people have panic attacks like that.

Teaandcakeordeath83 · 25/09/2021 17:46

I have psvt (para sympathetic ventricular tachycardia) and have had a few episodes like that. Like a jolt of adrenaline hitting me out of nowhere. Pulse goes up to about 180 (my resting is usually around 60) and I have to lie down while it passes as otherwise I hit the deck as it makes me really shaky and lightheaded. PSVT is caused by an "extra" faulty electrical pathway in the heart so you end up with an extra beat chasing around until it buggers off again. I've had a cardiac ablation on mine so now only get them very sporadically.

How weird. I had the same thing happen a couple of nights ago. It really spooked me as I was in the house alone.

itsmschanandlerbong · 25/09/2021 18:06

I get the same thing when my blood sugar is low, so either when I'm really hungry or I've ate something very sugary and then blood sugar crashes.

Kittii · 25/09/2021 18:09

I get this a lot due to stress/anxiety. It can come out of nowhere and at times when I actually feel relaxed! I also have tachycardia.

Stasiland · 25/09/2021 20:11

This is exactly what I have with long covid. Hot sweat from nowhere mainly on my face and arms, very flushed and hot. Sensation of heart beating faster, occasionally a couple of extra beats/ectopics. Occasionally I get the palpitations first then the sweat. Cardiologist thinks its pots/inappropriate tachycardia syndrome secondary to the virus or the vaccine (it started 10 days after the jab but also kind of coincided with a relapse of LC) I'm on beta blockers now, hr much better but still these sweats.

my panic attacks are just like this
