I take it in water everyday. It's done wonders for my IBS.

Grimbelina · 25/09/2021 14:37

Yes, every day, for its anti inflammatory properties and as an alternative to fish oil for Omega 3. You have to make sure you get it from a good supplier though (e.g. www.flaxfarm.co.uk/) as it needs to be very fresh and kept refrigerated.

SkinPaperThin · 26/09/2021 09:58

Oh I had no idea it had to be refrigerated. Been using it for years but just keep it in a kilner jar in cupboard.

Mustardfan · 27/09/2021 10:10

I take ground sprouted flaxseed, I keep it in the fridge, but it smells a bit odd and I worry that it goes off quickly, so I’m not sure whether to continue with it.

Mamabear12 · 27/09/2021 19:51

Yes, as a flax meal. Apparently it lowers BP. So I take it along w eating healthy to do this. When I was younger it used to break me out. But I now realise it’s only if I eat a load of high fats foods as well. Like too many nuts, seeds, avocados and flax. But if I keep it to flax and a small amount of the fatty healthy foods then it’s fine.

I got some ground flaxseed from Aldi, they just started selling it. Does it need to go in the fridge?

WhatHaveIFound · 27/09/2021 20:04

My dad has a tablespoon of it on his cereal most mornings as he has trouble with constipation due to meds. It seems to work for him.

I have it when only when I make overnight oats or if i'm using it as an egg substitute in vegan baking.

AuntyMabelandPippin · 27/09/2021 20:41

I don't put mine in the fridge, I keep it in a jar.

ScribblingPixie · 27/09/2021 20:43

I buy it in Aldi & put it on my cereal. I don't keep it in the fridge, just sealed up.

0blio · 27/09/2021 21:05

I take it for IBS, it keeps me regular. I prefer the seeds and have them with cereal or on yoghurt.

purplesequins · 27/09/2021 21:09

I take it in kefir every day.
it definitely keeps my gut happy.
I take a teaspoon of whole linseed/flaxseed in 100ml of kefir. wait for it to swell for a couple of hours.

thehairyhog · 27/09/2021 22:25

I take it as part of a gut health protocol. Also didn't realise it should be kept in the fridge 🤭

PeachesPumpkin · 27/09/2021 22:27

Did you know it’s very easy to grow a small crop yourself, in a pot or small corner of a flower bed.
Good for the bees too.

MissyB1 · 27/09/2021 22:28

I eat it every day in my porridge, it doesn’t need to be in the fridge.

I had a read up on this keeping in the fridge thing. Apparently if the flax is of decent quality then even once ground it should be fine to keep in a mason/kilner jar in the cupboard. The shelf life might be slightly less than the fridge but I store mine in an average size kilner jar and its always been fine a I use it every day so it doesn't have time to go off.

MissyB1 · 28/09/2021 17:08

@SkinPaperThin Yes mine is in a sealed container and as dh and I use it every day it would never last long enough to go off. We get through bloody loads of seeds, Chia, Flax, Sesame and Sunflower.

We might turn into budgies!

lazylinguist · 28/09/2021 17:20

Tried to. Unfortunately it gives me horrendous stomach cramps. So does quinoa!

SkinPaperThin · 28/09/2021 17:47

@MissyB1 yep us too Grin we love pumpkin seeds as well. We have a refill shop near us, which makes restocking our abundance of seeds easy.

samthebordercollie · 28/09/2021 20:03

I eat a tablespoon of ground flax seeds with some chia seeds in Greek yogurt for dessert every day. It's very filling as well as being an excellent source of Omega 3. If it isn't ground the seeds pass straight through you so you don't get the Omega 3 benefit.
I keep mine in a sealed Tupperware in the cupboard but I'll put it in the fridge now!
A word of warning, if you are starting to take them start with a teaspoon rather than a tablespoon as the can speed up your transit quite dramatically!
