Shoulder problem - agony today opening an envelope!!! Any thoughts

OK, I've got a shoulder problem. Physio and chiro say I'm rotating my shoulders forward and this has trapped a tendon in my arm.

When I make the wrong movement (literally, opening an envelope, reaching quickly for a tissue, opening a door -anything involving moving my arm outwards) it's absolute agony -as in grasp my arm and shout and swear and feel sick agony. The office thought I'd gone mad today when I reacted like this when opening an envelope.

I've already spent a few hundred pounds on a physio and chiropractor but they are not really getting anywhere. They've given me exercises which I have been doing but I've now had this for six weeks and I'm so fed up with it.

Anyone recognise this problem?

Hi M&J - I had exactly the saem sounding prob as this until a few ago and I'm sure it was my DS (2) who was being carried all the time. He loved leaning on the top of my arm and kind of drsgging my arms down.
I was also picking him up using my arms instead of my body.

The doctor said it was more than likely this and that I should not pick him up unless I had to. I also self massaged my shoulders using my thumbs and asked my DH to lift heavy stuff and that really helped.
I probably had the problem for 4 months altogether.

Perhaps your problem though is because of something else?

Oh thanks for this response. I have a one year old who is not yet walking so I do a lot of carrying. She is on the verge of walking so hopefully that will ease off soon.

I think you are reinforcing my view that this will just go in time as long as I do my exercises. Just fed up with spending so much time and money on physio without really getting anywhere.

Thanks for replying.

Yes - it sounds like the same then - blimey it hurt so much - putting my coat on when I had to put my arms back, stirring sauce, brushing my hair - I thought it would never get better but then once I'd stopped picking up DS as I'd said, it went without me even noticing over a couple of weeks.

I guess you need to lift your DD without putting any force upon your arms whatsoever.

Hope you feel better soon.
