I have tried Kalms (the night ones)

Tescos sleep aid which did seem to work at first but not anymore. The pharmacist said it was similar to night nurse so not worth me trying that.

Tried the hot milky drinks before bed, a warm bath, breathing exercises to try and relax more but to no avial.

Any recommendations?

Agree with CoteDAzure, anti-histamine do work well.

As for the lettuce sandwiches, there is apparently a chemical in lettuce that helps induce sleep. Gillian McKeith has a "Sleeply Lettuce Soup" which might help. I haven't tried it, maybe someone else has?, but it has to be better for you than alcohol!

Phenegran is fantastic for this. You can get it over the counter though my local phramacist refuses to let me have it and I have to go to Tescos instead.

I had the same problem. I am on proza now and I am asleep within 5 mins of getting into bed. Prozac is not addictive (but like anything you can become reliant on it) it contains nothing the body can become physically addicted to. I suffered bad reflux, belly ache, nausea etc for the first 3 weeks of taking it and then it passed. Try a different ad and make sure you give the side effects time to pass.

My ds (3 years) still wakes once or twice a night and I can now deal with him and go straight back to sleep. However, after 1 glass of wine I am rendered unconscious!.

just wondered if you had a chance to look at the link

BadKittenInAPearTree · 06/12/2007 21:14

Have bookmarked the link, its good - I like the sleep training section but had to laugh at point 5 where it said to get up no later than 8:30am. I can't remember the last time i slept in that late.

I try thinking that being in bed relaxed is not a bad thing in itself. Otherwise I start to get stressed about not sleeping which can become a vicious cycle. Some of the calming teas help (Twinning do a nice one at the moment with chocolate and lavender), and I am very careful about my environment, make sure it's very dark and that I'm at the right temperature. Also that I have eaten enough - sometimes it's just that little edge of hunger or cold that can stop me slipping over into sleep. Very familiar music can help, but it needs to be all the same sort of tempo/tone (I used to have a great one of chanting monks!). Finally a hotty botty with lavender and chamomile (also mandarin - good for lifting the spirt) at least makes you feel nice! I've also used melotonin, but found it a bit hit and miss. the other thing you might think about is what you can do to persuade your two year old he doesn't need you in the night (not being flip, but disturbed sleep is a bit of a killer for relaxing).

That's a good booklet I think - I like the idea of setting aside a time to worry. I think that I'm not worried, and then hey presto I turn off the light and worry away! Also the routine thing - we do it with our children after all...

An orgasm can help, as well

JinglyJangly · 07/12/2007 13:28

Thanks guys.

Flier - I have read some of the link - I have added it to my favourites & will have a good read now. Thanks.

CoteDAzur - funnily enough my DH keeps saying an orgasm helps . I'm usually too knackered though tbh.
