WTF? Eaten alive. Any ideas what it is?

I have these spots all down one side of my torso. I think they appeared overnight (didn't notice them last night). They are very mildly itchy, and not painful. We are in the UK. Any ideas what might have been munching on me?

Shingles is my guess. I've had them a couple of times. 😢

Bubbleswithsqueak · 21/09/2021 15:40

That's what I thought initially, but they're not painful? I though shingles hurt?

Bed bugs?

SophieHMS · 21/09/2021 15:49

Spider!! Nah. Probably a midge.

Bubbleswithsqueak · 21/09/2021 15:54

oh god, not bed bugs!! I hope not!! Not a new bed though, and no one new has slept in it...
DH is usually my midge repellent in that he attracts them far more than me so I don't get bitten. He didn't have any bites, so it must have been midges with exotic tastes!

That looks like a rash rather than bites. Not shingles either.
New washing powder, soap, cleaning products? Eaten anything different? Could even be a viral rash if you feel unwell or a heat rash if you got a bit toasty in the night.

careerchangeperhaps · 21/09/2021 15:59

Shingles follows the line of a nerve, so if it is all down one side of your torso (rather than a line from your spine to your side), it doesn't sound likely.

My guess is bedbugs or fleas.

MegBusset · 21/09/2021 16:02

I've had both shingles and bed bug bites in the last three months, and it doesn't look like either to me. Shingles was incredibly painful (had it on my leg and could barely walk) and bed bug bites tend to cluster in threes (known as breakfast, lunch, dinner!)

Have you changed washing powder or fabric conditioner? Eaten anything different?

WildImaginings · 21/09/2021 16:06

Bizarrely I have had the same appear on me. They're on my right side on the side of my waist. Following with interest!

Bubbleswithsqueak · 21/09/2021 16:16

Wild - how bizarre!
Looking at bedbug pics online, mine look much smaller. We have dogs (no cats) so I guess fleas are a possibility, but we've had dog fleas before and the bites were much itchier.
Cool night, no new washing powder (same sheets and pjs as night before), and white fish for dinner, so I would think unlikely to be that!
Very odd...

Looks more like a rash to me than a bite - I say this as someone who is very attractive to biting things. It doesn't look like any bite I've ever head.

sandycloud · 21/09/2021 17:09

My DD had shingles recently. Didn't hurt at all to start with. Just on one side. Then she started to feel ill then itchy a couple of days later.

StinkingCold · 22/09/2021 17:11

Doesn't look like bed bugs to me. I had bed bugs years ago and they r incredibly itchy and tend to be in a pattern of 3 - ie. 3 bites in a vertical line.

Looks.more like a rash?

TheIrritableGoldfish · 22/09/2021 17:13

I've had shingles and it didn't hurt at all.

Agree that rash is more likely, but whatever it is take some anti histamine

Bubbleswithsqueak · 23/09/2021 08:52

Well all those who guessed shingles got it right...

A line of rash developed from my armpit all down my arm yesterday morning. With a bit of faffing about I managed to get a prescription for anti-virals from the GP, and it seems to be settling a little bit, although it's pretty itchy. So far feeling ok, so fingers crossed...

Thanks for the guesses - I wouldn't have worked out it was shingles so quickly without the help, and the drugs only work if you start them within 3 days of developing symptoms, so it's going to make a big difference. Yay for the hive mind!
