Hello

I have been recommended to take these for constipation however before trying them I wonder whether anyone has tried this and with what success?

I am peri menopausal and have been having occasional constipation.

Anyone?

Thanks

Metamousil. Yes it’s fine. Irritates the guy, you poop.

Ground psyllium husk is in a lot of gluten free items. Be aware you don't need very much!

Thanks for comments Wink

How much did you start with?

The package will tell you.

Hi, I take a table spoon of psyllium husk every night. Start with a small amount though, 3 quarters of a teaspoon or a teaspoon to start - it can bloat you etc if you go in too heavy too soon! I just pop it in a glass of water and down it. Make sure you stay hydrated too. Hope it helps!

I just ordered a tub off Amazon most recently. Have also bought a bag in our local homeopath/health food store @bungabungaboo. Good name too!

Guineapigbridge · 21/09/2021 22:58

I have it everyday for breakfast: 1/2 cup oats, 2x tsp chia seeds, 1x tsp pysillium husk and 1tsp cinnamon. Left to go soft in yoghurt or almond milk.
It's low GI, filling and very good for digestion.

It is a bulk forming laxative.

Good for lowering cholesterol but I do think it makes the bowels become dependent on it.

I ended up in hospital from eating too much psyllium husk. They said it was a partial obstruction due to too much fibre. I had to take lactulose instead and drink loads of water. Eventually it cleared. Since then if I have constipation I will take lactulose, drink lots of water, eat plenty of fruit and do some yoga. It doesn't work for everyone and I already get a fair amount of fibre in my diet. If you do use it just use a little and if it doesn't help switch to something else instead of increasing the does too quickly.

WashableVelvet · 22/09/2021 21:35

Was very useful during pregnancy. You need to drink a lot of water with it though.

BabycakesMatlala · 22/09/2021 21:37

I've used it in the past, but am finding gum Arabic even better.

bonfireheart · 22/09/2021 21:39

U only need a tiny amount once with lots of water. You can find ground husk in most south asian/Indian grocery stores.

RandomMess · 22/09/2021 21:40

I take 2 capsules once a day. Otherwise I get hard stools.

I have had lifelong issues with constipation though.

TwoBlondes · 22/09/2021 21:50

I found linseed more palatable. I put it in flapjacks. As well as curing constipation it seems to make my nails grow!

Guineapigbridge · 23/09/2021 01:58

Gum arabic is an allergen to many people (including me)

BabycakesMatlala · 23/09/2021 09:35

I hadn't realised that, Guinea (love the name 🙂).

Sorry to hear thepotatocroquette about the effect it had on you Sad
