Failed biopsy and suspicious mass in uterus

I had a biopsy recently after I was taken into hospital with heavy unexplained flooding. It was bad I nearly had to have a blood transfusion and I’m anaemic. I’ve been discharged from hospital but when I was there they did a scan and found a biggish mass in my womb. They’ve done a biopsy to check for cancer but I found out during a call with my GP yesterday that they’ve now analysed it and all they got in the sample was blood. They did the biopsy blind I.e, no camera or scanner was used at the same time and I was warned that this might happen and that if it did they would repeat it but via hysteroscopy which uses a camera.

Has anyone else had this happen and if so how long did you have to wait? The doc told me he was sending my sample off as urgent. I’m just thinking if there is something nasty in there then I don’t want to leave it too long. I have a young family I want to be around for etc.

I looked into going private for hysteroscopy (without general anaesthesia) and was shocked to see it priced around £1600 plus £200 consultants fee. This isn’t something I can afford.

Presumably they will book you in for a hysteroscopy soon. Fingers crossed for you. It must be so worrying. Flowers

I think it depends on the hospital. I had a similar referral but not urgent. Saw GP July 2020, he wasn’t allowed to make any gynaecology referrals until Oct 2020. Lots of cancelled appointments, eventually seen Jan 2021 for yet another scan. Took another couple of months to be offered an actual consultation. The soonest date available at my local hospital was Feb 2023 Hmm Managed to get in at a small hospital further away, in June 2021 again only for another scan though. Received nothing since then. Not even a follow up letter. Hopefully they are just so overwhelmed with the the urgent patients that they have no time for the non-urgent ones.

I’d shop around for a cheaper private hysteroscopy, that sounds expensive based on my research. Are you certain that it didn’t include an anaesthetist even though no GA? I wasn’t offered any pain relief at all in two previous hysterscopies, so glad we’re saving the NHS. But it wasn’t that bad.

I went from first hospital appointment to surgery in 3 weeks in May 2019. This followed an intravaginal ultrasound in April. My GP referred me to hospital after the ultrasound under 2 week scheme as she was worried about some areas of the endometrium. Ended up having a hysteroscopy at the same time as an endometrial ablation and the biopsy came up clear.

I think re-reading your OP that you’ll be referred and seen really quickly too. Wishing you well.

Thanks for the replies. I’m trying to stay calm but underneath it all I’m really worried. This has all happened so quickly.
