Pneumonia

Hi

I was wondering for people who have had pneumonia - how long until you started feeling better?

I went to a&e with back and chest pains. They diagnosed me with 'severe' pneumonia in my right lung. I was hospitalised for 5 nights, on oxygen and IV antibiotics. Been sent home on oral antibiotics. I've been home for a week and still have chest ache (much better than the pain) when doing deep breaths and moving. I feel better in myself and I'm less short of breath going up the stairs etc, but my oxygen levels are still low (I have bought a stats machine).

It isn't COVID related as I've done many, many PCR tests in the hospital and the doctors are baffled with how I've contracted it this severely when I'm only 26 Grin

I'm watching physio YouTube videos for breathing excersises and I'm still sleeping upright as I'm in pain lying down. Any experiences or tips would be great x

Oh poor you Sad

It's definitely much harder when you have a little one to take care of! Mine is 18 months next week Grin I've only just been able to start lifting her again, prob for about the last two weeks or so... when I first came out of hospital I couldn't even lift the milk out of the fridge to make a coffee! I have a few more tests scheduled but I'm glad I'm definitely on the mend now.

Just take care of yourself and take it easy...try and rest as much as you can but if you're worried please go to your GP.

I went back to my GP mostly because I didn't feel much improvement after 3 weeks and then she sent me to hospital and the blood clot was eventually found. Always worth a check up if you're struggling for a while. X

Glad you're finally on the mend, it takes a long time not to feel knackered by everything.

I cried in hospital to go home (to 4dc) so I could get some proper rest to recover, got home and dh wouldn't let me do or lift anything, even the millions of tablets were too much strainfor me to lift and had to be brought to me, took him a long time to really relax and let me get on.

Did you get/been invited for the flu or pneumonia vaccine?

Mumadof3 · 26/11/2021 20:16

Oh bless you sounds like you was very poorly. I've defo improved but couldn't look after my kids for a week properly on my own just the persistent chest pains and breathlessness now though I'm also only 28 had chest xray and bloods were all oka so hoping my xray is clear as it seems people bloods come back not oka if something is wrong. I'm just slightly low on my folic acid levels which is pretty common for me tbh. What a fighter you are though getting threw all that bet it was so hard being away from your baby. 18 months is a lush age isnt it. mine is poorly atm though so has been a bit of a worry so not really resting Haha but hopefully when shes over this I'm just going to lay up for a week and see how I feel then. Hate the breathlessness but my o2 levels have stayed fine i couldn't imagine them being as low as yours bless you. I had the ambulance out a few times but as my o2 levels was fine they said stay home thankfully.

That's exactly how I was during my second hospital stay... I wasn't sleeping at all and I finally got some decent rest at home. My other half has been pretty good and I've had my mum round to help out too which I'm so grateful for.

I've been invited for the flu vaccine but I'm going to wait until I'm 100% better before having it this year. Will ask my GP about the pneumonia vaccine as I couldn't probably do with that!
