I want to ditch the glasses but can't afford laser. Currently I use 1 Day Acuvue Moist for astigmatism but find my eyes are raw and itching within a few hours.
Any recommendations

Exactly the same here! Following with interest.

Look at OrthoK. I switched about 7 years ago as I was getting very dry eyes with daily disposables.

They are rigid lenses you wear overnight and then take out when you wake up. They change the shape of your cornea so you have perfect distance vision all day. They take a bit of getting used to for the first week or so and can only correct distance vision but I love mine.

I changed to Acuvue Oasys combined with anti-allergy eyedrops. I still suffer the itching after about 2 hours but it's much better than before using the moist ones alone. I've never found a totally comfortable lens.

Acuvue Moist were going to be my recommendation - I have one eye with astigmatism and one without, so use both. But I’d be careful if you’re getting itchy eyes. I never did, and have never felt my eyes being dry with contacts in, but two years of Acuvue Moist has scarred my eyes a little bit due to the dryness.

It might be that contacts aren’t a great idea if your eyes are really dry and sensitive, especially if you want to wear them all day - but I have heard rigid lenses can be worth a shot, so the post above might be an idea!

I use monthly lenses, can't remember the name of the brand but I don't buy them in the UK anyway.

Started when I was about 14, never had any issues with itchiness or redness, unless I have them on for 14/16h+, towards the end of the month.

Nat6999 · 18/09/2021 22:43

I have the Bausch & Lomb ones, the extended wear ones that I can wear for up to 7 days without removing but I take them out at night.

StillWeRise · 18/09/2021 22:50

I have rigid gas permeable lenses and have worn them for 40+ years

  • I wear them all day, every day, but when I'm not working I am up and about for a few hours before putting them in. I remember hearing on the radio once that hard lenses or much safe for your eyes,
RadDarwazeh · 18/09/2021 22:51

Accuvue oasys daily
1 day dailies total 1
Hycosan dual

Some people are not tolerant to silicone in silicone hydrogel lenses. Acuvue moist is hydrogel only I believe so it's interesting you still have dryness. Consider reducing your wearing time hours/take scree time breaks.

Good luck OP

Don't switch types without seeing your optometrist first, the specifications are not equivalent between them.

Go and have a check up, they'll be able to give you some (properly fitted) samples of different lens types or find a cause for the dryness and treat that.
