Could my op be cancelled because of hole in my tooth?

Mu temporary filling has just fallen out and I’m having a big operation on Monday. It doesn’t hurt. Does it urgently need to be filled? If so, could I go and get an emergency temporary filling while I’m isolating before surgery?

I may be being dense here but not sure why a surgery would have to be cancelled because of a missing filling? You could get some temporary filling material from Amazon and stick that in there if you're worried.

Not sure why you think the surgery would be cancelled. Don’t go sticking FIY stuff in unless you know what you’re doing with it. An already damaged tooth is slightly more vulnerable to damage during a GA depending a bit on where it is and how bit the hole is. If that small risk worries you massively and the surgery is something that is amenable to being done with spinal/regional anaesthetic then that will remove the risk of dental damage but I don’t think I know a single anaesthetist that would postpone or insist on doing spinal/regional just for a missing filling. I doubt surgery would be cancelled because of a missing filling. How would they even know. Just get your surgery and get to the dentist when you can afterwards. Is it a long recuperation period?

DIY not FIY Blush

Thanks all. Surgery was cancelled last week as surgeon was ill, but they did go through dental questions before it got cancelled. They asked if I had any crowns or wobbly teeth. They didn’t ask about holes in the teeth.
I’m fine to go ahead if it’s not meant to be a problem. Will get it refilled after the operation.

they ask about teeth so they know if anything is at risk/loose for the anaesthetic. Just be honest on the day.

I'm not a medical person so I can only state from experience. When my mum had a heart operation, she had to have her teeth checked by the dentist beforehand, just yo check there was no infection. But I think that was strictly because it was heart operation. Infectio in the bloodstream could cause endocarditis.
Loose teeth and crowns are to do with anaesthesia, ie the equipment they insert into your mouth can knock something already loose and dislodge it. If the anaesthesiologist knows the problem area, they can take precautions to avoid it.
I think that's right. Probably a medical person will come along to say I'm talking rubbish!

Thanks both

Loose crowns is so it doesn't get knocked and ends up in your lungs

You can be operated on with holes in your teeth. Probably better that than a loose temporary filling tbh

Thanks @CarrotSticks23

unless the tooth is wobbly there is no reason to cancel. even with a wobbly tooth they will likely proceed.

good luch

If you need to isolate before surgery then you shouldn't be going anywhere.

A missing filling won't be an issue as long as the rest of the tooth isn't loose or anything.

Thanks both
