I used vaseline or olive oil on my 'flaky' babies. Just rub a small amount into the skin after a bath.

You can use grape seed oil.

flowerybeanbag · 05/12/2007 10:31

we used grapeseed oil, few drops in his bath, worked a treat.

meep · 05/12/2007 10:52

we used Grapeseed oil too - or olive oil (from Boots - not Sainsburys!)

I used Johnsons baby oil gel - it's thick and really easy to apply and it sorted out dd2 perfectly.

I did olive oil massages on DS, and it worked really well. Probably better to use a blended or plain olive oil instead of extra virgin.

I used olive oil (only a really small amount after baths)
that was my hospitals advice.
eventually my dd peeled a whole layer and then was fine.
She was flaky because she came out 2 weeks late

SquonkaClaus · 05/12/2007 11:12

I heard that the late ones are often flaky - it fitted in with my dates for dd2, but according to the hosital's dates, she was early

My midwife recommended aqueous cream (about £1.50 for a large tub, from the chemist).

Not sure if it helped, but applying it several times a day really sorted out my chapped hands. .

I had a dark carpet at the time and I remember getting really cross that it always needed hoovering, even when I'd just done it.

The dry skin only lasted a couple of weeks. I suspect we just needed to wait for it all to come off really, rather than stick it back on with creams
