How many periods do you have to miss before bothering GP?

I am now missing my second one, I went after mising the first because I was getting confused between BFPs and evapouration lines, GP asked me to get test done at a Chemist, which I did and was - and that was really the end of it. When should I go back?

have you done another home test?

HoHoHoOfWalsall · 04/12/2007 21:00

I have done 4 in all, the chemists one was the last one about a week or so ago.

You are perfectly entitled to have a test on the NHS. Take a sample and demand he do one and if it's negative ask him to investigate where your periods are, ask for a referral to a gynaecologist. Get on your high horse and kick hard with your spurs HohohoofWalsall, it's just not good enough for your GP to send you away and leave you in limbo.

gigglewitchyouamerryxmas · 04/12/2007 21:02

insist they test.

nag if you have to

whomovedmychocolate · 04/12/2007 21:04

Produce a cup of wee and refuse leave until it's tested, that's what I'd do. Mind you, I'm a mean old pregnant cow!s

HoHoHoOfWalsall · 04/12/2007 21:05

Do tests this soon? I am pretty sure I am not pregnant (I have been drinking this week so I hope I am not this time!), just starting to panic that something is wrong.

I'll test again tomorrow (hate carting pots of wee around with me!) but I am 100% sure of the outcome of it.

go back
they need to find out what's happening

whomovedmychocolate · 04/12/2007 21:14

It may not be pregnancy - but you could actually be ill you know? Yes it's only two months, but how many months do you want to go through this before knowing what is going on. What is you are pregnant and you get to six months and you've spent all christmas getting trolleyed?

Or if you have an underlying hormonal problem and instead of getting treatment you are letting it fester. I don't know how old you are but if you are going through the menopause (and it can happen early) it's best to know so you can manage the symptoms before they start to get nasty.

So go back and if you have to do a sample there, ask the receptionist for a pot and go to the loo there.

HoHoHoOfWalsall · 04/12/2007 21:16

I am 21, which makes me worried they won't investigate. I will test tomorrow and either way I will go to GP, thanks.

Being 21 means it's LESS likely to be anything like the menopause and more likely to be pregnancy but many things can affect periods.

Are you:

(1) Stressed
(2) Losing or gaining weight
(3) Taking the pill
(4) Exercising a lot
(5) Drinking a lot
(6) Experiencing sweating at night or nausea?
(7) Finding it difficult to lose weight or experiencing weight gain in your tummy?

These are the sorts of questions your GP should be asking right off the bat.

HoHoHoOfWalsall · 04/12/2007 21:34

(1) Stressed - ALOT less recently, ie. not been overly stressed for months now
(2) Losing or gaining weight - Have gained abit but exercising less as it's colder, but you're talking 2-3lbs
(3) Taking the pill - Not for years
(4) Exercising a lot - Nope!
(5) Drinking a lot - More than usual, but only at the meet-up, last night and twice on nights out in the past month or so
(6) Experiencing sweating at night or nausea? Nausea - from time to time yeah, but I have a weak stomach - I only have to look at a plughole and I feel sick, maybe a little more than normal?
(7) Finding it difficult to lose weight or experiencing weight gain in your tummy? Little bloated tummy

Hi
HoHoHoOfWalsall.

I have had no AF for 4 months now.
I have had a blood test done to determine the cause.
The blood test shows I have an underactive thyroid which apparently can cause absent periods.

The ironic thing is that my periods only dissapeared once I started ttc near the end of August which has really thrown me maybe the timing was just coincidence.

I think you should test again in another week maybe you are pregnant and the HCG hormone is too low for the PT to detect.

If your AF stll does not show itself and you get another BFN I would get yourself down the doctors and ask for a BT.

I spent far too much on pregnancy tests only to keep getting a BFN when all of the time I had an underlying medical condition causing the problem.

HoHoHoOfWalsall · 05/12/2007 11:42

OK, thanks. DIdn't test today because DH got in after I woke up (and went to the loo) so too late to test, but I will more than likely tomorrow then go to GP.
