Abnormal blood results. High creatinine levels

confusedmummy123 · 15/09/2021 19:31

Hi. Went for a blood test Monday as had been feeling tired, shortness of breath. Thought it may have shown I was anemic but that's clear . My creretin levels were at 93 though so been asked to repeat the blood test in 3 months. I saw the nurse today for contraception injection and she showed me that a blood test in 2016 had showed the levels at 91. Then on another blood test it had dropped. Now it's 93. It just said next to it abnormal so guess they are just going to monitor it. Has anyone else had this? Is it cause on those two occasions I maybe hadn't drank much liquid? Have a fairly good diet and within my bmi range. One thing let's me down is I do like my gin. Any thoughts?

Do you eat a lot of meat or drink a lot of milk? Are you following a specific diet (low carb, high protein, ...)

confusedmummy123 · 15/09/2021 21:37

Hi. Not really. I prefer fish and i like chicken. Not much for red meat and don't eat a great deal of it. Prefer veggie alternatives a lot of the time. Don't drink loads of milk as don't like the taste. Boyfriend says I should though for the calcium.

Have they checked your kidney function and also your ursine for blood and protein?
I have stage 4 kidney disease with creat levels of 100. By no means am I saying you have KD, but please do ask for a dip test.
Sadly my disease was over looked for years and now it's very aggressive. There needs to be more awareness.

LIZS · 15/09/2021 21:42

High protein diet can raise creatinine levels.

confusedmummy123 · 15/09/2021 22:45

Hattiesmith so sorry to hear that. It seems to have fluctuated over the different blood tests. In 2016 it was 91 then went to 72 and now 93. Can I request its checked before the three months

Agree with @hattiesmith. In someone of your age (presumably

crumblebug · 16/09/2021 08:35

Yes, that is high and does suggest kidney dysfunction as PP said

I'm surprised they haven't followed it up before

crumblebug · 16/09/2021 08:35

Although at least it's not getting worse !

Yes absolutely. Arrange an appointment for as soon as possible and take in a sample. The dip test for protein and blood can be done there and then.

Have they tested your kidney function?

MountainDweller · 16/09/2021 12:34

Do you take a lot of anti-inflammatories? (Nurofen, naproxen, etc). I am prescribed these permanently but they can affect kidney function so I have regular checks. My creatinine is a bit high - 71, down from 78 last year, but GP is OK with it.

LIZS · 16/09/2021 13:08

It can also be a side effect of drugs such as for blood pressure.

confusedmummy123 · 16/09/2021 14:38

What shall I say? Will they try to fob me off by saying that I need to repeat test in 3 months. I'm wondering if if doc hasn't seen the results from 2016 where it was 91 and he thinks this is a one off? My docs shut bow till tomorrow morning. Only take Sertraline for anxiety and only Ibuprofen when needed which luckily is not often

I would book an app and tell the receptionist you need to discuss your kidneys. Go in with your sample and say you are aware the creat levels are on the high side and you want to check for blood and protein in your urine to rule out kidney disease.
If there's no protein or blood, that's positive.
Wait for the next blood test and ask for your kidney function (gfr) to be done also.

One thing I've learnt over the last few years is don't leave it to the Drs, you lead them and tell them what you need. Trust your gut feeling and never be fobbed off.

Ibuprofen isn't great for kidneys so I avoid it.

confusedmummy123 · 16/09/2021 15:08

Hattiesmith thank you . I will do that

To everyone suggesting ‘getting kidney function tested’ - Cr is part of kidney function and the rest of the results will be available to the GP.

veryfuckingfun · 16/09/2021 20:04

Do you workout a lot?? Cr can be high from breakdown of muscle fibres releasing myoglobin into your blood travelling to your kidneys causing issues!! You need full u and Es done.

confusedmummy123 · 16/09/2021 21:21

No workouts. Just been on the go at work and with the kids.

Hi @confusedmummy123 did you get any answers about your creatinine levels and what caused it ? I’m in the same situation with similar numbers and I’m very worried!
