Just had a call from hosp they've had a cancellation and can see me on Saturday. No information from them at all and they hung up before I could check anything.
Left a voice message for them.
I'm bleeding heavily will I need to take tablets to stop that?
Will there be a local anesthetic given do I need to request that?
How long does it take?
Is it horrible?
Any advice please

The level of pain can vary, many have said it's excruciating and many have said it's virtually pain-free.
My hospital do it under a general but I would suspect that yours are going to do it with a local as they've not given you info about food.
There are a couple of threads on here with info if you do a search.

If you are bleeding heavily they probably won't be able to do it. Can you call them back and speak to them about it?
Mine wasn't too painful. The biopsy made me take a lot of deep breaths. For me it was the feeling of being exposed. The team I had were wonderful, but I still found it difficult. But I know some women have found it painful. It is very different for each person and sadly you won't know until you are having it.

I had it. No local. I had to take ibuprofen a couple of hours before because they release air and water to open up inside and that enables them to see clearer. It feels like period pain. I didn't find it that bad but they were surprised that I handled it so well so I think I was lucky.
You can watch it all on the screen if you like. I found it interesting. I can't see how you could have it if you're bleeding badly because I would think that would make it difficult to see anything.

I hope its manageable I spoke to hospital they were really unhelpful and not sympathetic at all. Not their policy to give any anesthetic or pain relief during this procedure 😢😢😢

I was told to take ibuprofen and paracetamol beforehand. They gave me a local and it was fine pain wise - a little uncomfortable but not too bad. I felt fragile rather than in pain afterwards. I was fine the next day. I was given Northeristone to stop the bleeding beforehand.

I have heard other people say it was much worse. I think it really depends. I had a lovely nurse hold my hand and distract me which helped, I think.

TipTopHat · 15/09/2021 20:25

I didn't have any pain relief other than a couple of ibuprofen prior. It was quite uncomfortable, taking the tissue for biopsy was quite painful, sharp pains. I had cramps afterwards for a few hours and bled but I've had worse!

Porridgealert · 15/09/2021 20:53

It's the water and air that makes it feel like period pain. A couple of times she hit the wall lining and that was uncomfortable. But it was all fine. Worst bit I always find is them opening you up. I can almost hear mine creaking. Needs a good dose of WD40.😄
They like you to sit afterwards but I went off shopping so no ill effects. Best thing it's over and done, with none of the palaver of a GA. No locals up here in the North. (I had a back operation where they screwed titanium into my spine and they only gave me paracetamol. I feel like I'm doing my bit for keeping nhs costs down! 😉) However, if they feel you can't continue or cope, they will stop and schedule you for a GA instead. So don't worry, they'll look after you.

Oh and be prepared for the audience. I had 4 members of staff with me, including the cleaner! Lovely women all.

Porridgealert · 15/09/2021 20:59

Oh and one more thing. I went in a loose, calf length skirt so I only needed to take my underwear off and my modesty was kept in tact as I walked to the chair and lay there whilst they got ready. My friend went in trousers and she had to walk around and lie there with just a paper towel wrapped round her.
