Hey ladies! Sorry but its a poop question..my son will 3 in 2 months and i have notice for a long time now that he very often has undigested food in his poop. Like carrots,blueberries,beans,pineapple,apple..
These kind if things. Im just wondering if this is normal at this age! He is happy and full of energy, eats great allthough he is a slim child :) Any experiences highly appreciated! TIA

He's probably not chewing properly. !

rainbowninja · 13/09/2021 21:37

Good point made by the previous poster about chewing, does he sit down to eat?

mommycarol · 15/09/2021 10:40

@rainbowninja hi!! Yes he seats!

All adults have undigested food in their poo. We just tend not to spend a lot of time examining it.

It's perfectly normal.

@BuffySummersReportingforSanityHi,and thanx for replying! I guess just wanted to see if its normal at this age cause i see it very often. 2-3 friends that have children same age said that they dont get to see undigested food in their children..so thats why i got a bit worried..

Personally I don't spend a lot of time looking at my kids' poo either since they toilet trained, but in the days in which I changed nappies, yes, very common even just in the early days of weaning when they were barely swallowing any solids. Nothing you've mentioned sounds concerning.

mommycarol · 15/09/2021 11:05

@10ColaBottles hey :) apart from that he is great! Just a lot undigested food in nappies!

Sweetcorn is always a culprit! 🤮 😊

mommycarol · 15/09/2021 11:08

@BuffySummersReportingforSanity hey :) well i dont spent too much time watching either!! Is just there, hard not to notice!! He is not toilet trained yet. I know that in early toddler time os quite common to see it cause is the begining and their digestive system is not mature. Was just curious if its still normal at age almost 3 years old.

Hi @mommycarol,

I get why you would be concerned, I'm training in functional nutrition at the moment and looking at poop does tell you something about how the body is functioning so you're actually right to be taking an interest! It's certainly got me more interested in my own daughters bowel movements 🤣

It doesn't sound like anything to be too worried about, is he otherwise happy and healthy? And the things you've described sound quite healthy and fibrous like the kind of things that should be coming out!

Newmummy9 · 15/09/2021 21:21

My 1 year old had an upset stomach fir a few weeks with undigested food. The GP told me to google ‘peas and carrots syndrome’. Apparently it’s very common, nothing to worry about and resolves naturally. Perhaps yours is linked to this.

Is the poo solid?
I used to look after a little girl who was diagnosed with toddler diarrhoea, and she used to have undigested food in her nappies.
Quite common in children up to 5 apparently.
