Having tests for fatigue, nerve issues and odema

Not really sure what is wrong with me. I have been feeling exhausted for years and after years of being brushed off I was diagnosed with sleep apnea. It took about 8 weeks of cpap and I then felt better. Until about 6 months ago I'm exhausted again. I have put on about three stone and dispite monitoring my calories and exercising I'm still putting on weight. I have tight itchy ankles so I think its oedema.

I keep being brushed off. Last week I had enough symptoms of heart disease to get bloods and a chest xray.

I'm also having tests already for nerve pain.

Feel like I'm falling apart.

Thyroid?

RareritySparkles · 13/09/2021 21:23

I hope it's my thyroid. It's been borderline for years but my gp never seems concerned. I have felt calves and they are rock hard - like I am tensing them. I'm not. They are rock hard from oedema.

I'm worried its heart disease

I feel for you @RareritySparkles it's really hard when you've got seemingly unconnected symptoms and can't get to the bottom of it. I hope the tests yield something useful.

With the weight gain I would try focussing on the quality of the food rather than the calories. You need protein, particularly at the beginning of the day to balance your blood sugar/energy levels.

Totally sounds like thyroid. Please push to try thyroxine even if borderline. They need to treat your symptoms not just the numbers. A low dose won’t do any harm if you’re borderline - will just hopefully take you to the other end of the normal range rather than on the edge of it. It can also go alongside other conditions like anemia and low B12 so make sure to get full bloods done and get them all optimal, not just “in range” but top of the range (or indeed bottom of the range for TSH).

Thanks. I cant go on like this much longer. The fatigue was bad enough but now my oedema is so bad I'm in pain with tight skin.

I had a failed nerve conduction study this week. I suspect it's from oedema but I cant be sure. So many new symptoms now where as I was just tired before. First I'm breathless, then my muscles started to burn on minor exertion, then weird nerve pain/ symptoms. Now this killer rock hard oedema. I have just tested my urine and I have raised ketones but my blood glucose is ok.
