Could this be migraine?

Since February 2020 I've been getting headaches that last 2-3 days, my symptoms are one sided headache always on the right side, feels like a pressure at times and works it way over my right eye which then also feels like a pressure over that eye, I also feel very nauseous but have never been sick and it gets more intense if I walk around.
I had about four headaches like that last year and am now on my fourth this year.
Current one started yesterday evening about 5-6pm and no paracetamol will touch it, it's driving me insane and tomorrow can't come quick enough as should start to go tomorrow hopefully.
I haven't seen a doctor yet but is this typical of a migraine, I don't sleep well and have had a particular bad week of sleeping bad and wonder if this is a trigger?

Yes, could you well be having migraines.

You need to see a GP for a diagnosis though. There are specific medications that can help - triptans. However, in the interim, try a 900mg dose of aspirin instead of paracetamol - it's recommended by neurologists to the likes of me with chronic migraine as an early attempt to prevention an attack continuing without stronger meds. Personally I'd also recommend you take the aspirin with a sugary drink like full fat coke so you get a small amount of caffeine as well.

Yes and yes. Everyone is different. There are meds you can take to get rid of the headache and also preventatives. Speak to your GP.

Yes it does sound like it could be a migraineI. l
l used to suffer these, they are horrendous. I had very similar symptons. I found migraleave very good, not sure if they still do it as luckily haven't suffered one for many years. Lack of sleep can be a trigger, along with bright lights, certain foods, hormonal changes. Since l have had Mirena coil fitted, no more migraines.
Best to speak to Dr first.

Yes definitely sounds like a migraine. I suffer from them as well ever since university. I take a combination of paracetamol and ibrofen with a fizzy drink

I had one yesterday which lasted all day they can be debilitating.

Thanks everyone for replies, I was thinking it could be migraine but I was also stressing there was something else wrong.
It's making me feel incredibly tired and at the moment I'm getting a pulsating pressure every now and then over my right eye and temple area and it's making me feel sick.
I'm asthmatic I don't know if I can take aspirin I never have any at home anyway only paracetamol.
I will definitely go and see the doctor as soon as I can and see what she says, this is making me feel so ill the pressure and pain is horrendous.
I have been sipping coke although I am not a fan of it and it hasn't helped sadly, also been sipping lucozade, hope I can sleep tonight and wake up pain free.
So much sympathy to anyone that suffers migraines.

Try a cold flannel on your forehead. It helps me a bit, and any improvement on pain is worth it.

@FindingMeno thanks 😊

Go see a pharmacist - there are LOTS of meds they can sell you, including anti sicknesses pills. And book in to your GP ASAP.

I have had migraines fr decades. My last one was a disaster as I vomit bad;y and was bringing up blood with the violence of it.

One doctor recommended Imigran Nasal Spray and it is a lifesaver. Works within seconds as it goes straight to the brain.
because of the vomiting I could not keep oral meds down.

On that one occasion I woke when the migraine was too well established to be aborted.

Please SEE YOUR GP And meanwhile ask at your pharmacy? Regs will be different there but they will have accurate advice.

Can you manage to get to a pharmacy? Like this morning? Cannot believe you have not done so previously.

At least call them as soon as they open.

With me they got fed up of having to come out to me. The drs I mean. Serious vomiting is dangerous.

Bebeschitt · 13/09/2021 08:09

My total sympathy OP. I'm a chronic migraine sufferer and there is nothing quite like a 3 day spell.
Caffeine can help. Full fat coke is good.
Do see your GP, there are lots of meds available now.
Get well soon.

kissmelittleass · 13/09/2021 08:16

Thanks for replies I have to work all day but luckily from home, I will ring the surgery later though and see if I can get an appointment in the coming days.
I have never actually been sick but I just have that horrible rising feeling that makes me think I could, extreme nauseous at times and the pain in head and over my right eye is not a pain I'd wish anyone to suffer.

You can buy migralieve over the counter - contains paracetamol so wait til your last dose wears off. Might just take the edge off.

I get migraines, triptans are the best thing for knocking them on the head (prescribed by the GP) but I also take something that prevents migraines (Amitriptyline) which has made a huge difference.

LindaEllen · 13/09/2021 10:41

It could be - but any new, continuous headache that doesn't go away should be checked out. It could be something else (rare of course, but always worth checking).

WeAreTheHeroes · 13/09/2021 13:02

Ring your GP - not worth the risk of being something else and getting worse.

I was diagnosed after 20 odd years of suffering migraines when I suddenly had a bad attack which lasted 72 hours. It was horrific.

FindingMeno · 13/09/2021 15:40

You should see your gp.
I had undiagnosed migraines for years (3 day ones), and when I was given triptans it was like a mini-miracle!

On the back of your neck too

I know that feeling. The first time I used the Imigran Nasal spray when I was too nauseous for oral meds the pain just ,melted away
MrMeSeeks · 15/09/2021 17:07

These are typical symptoms for me yes.
I can also get throbbing pain in the back of my head ( those are the worse ones) or pain in both sides of my head, nausea, heavy legs, exhaustion.

Sounds strange but my friend gets really severe ones, ( she has to take preventative medication and painkillers from the hospital) she swears by cooling gel pads and a tight eye mask ( when she’s at home obv) as the tension helps the pain.
An elderly lady told her she’d and it’s helped her ever since. Grin
