Travel Sickness?

I'm at my wits end. Ds always suffered with travel sickness, wheeling him in his pram even made him vomit, I've always been told that he'd grow out of it but he hasn't, every trip he's had to take over the counter anti sickness tablets, we've tried them all, we've tried the wrist bands we've tried everything, the tablets make him sleepy, the anti drowsy ones don't work, he still vomits.

It doesn't matter what form of transport it is, he vomits. He's now 20yrs and recently received a really good job offer. He has to do 8 weeks training at their head office which is a 40 minute bus journey. We've done a few trial runs to the place, by car and bus and he's sick every time. It's really getting him down, he doesn't want to be sick when he'll be travelling alone, I can't give him anti sickness tablets every day as it says on the packets not to use long term. Has anyone experienced this? There must be a solution, we're getting desperate now.

@stripeymonster

I assume he's tried stugeron tablets? I was advised by GP that it was safe to take more than the recommended dose if necessary although it may make you sleepy. Wearing headphones to listen to music - in ear phones work the best. Lots of fresh air and looking straight ahead. Agree with no food before travel. But yes ultimately learning to drive is the long term solution.
Funnily enough these tablets are the only ones that work, but he falls asleep, they are like a sleeping tablet with him. I was unsure if they could be used twice daily for 8 weeks? Unfortunately there's no fresh air in our buses, our buses are coaches, so the windows have no openings, there is air con, when it works... In saying that when he's in the car, every window is open, the car does be freezing and he goes quiet, turns green then grey and vomits.

Phenergan tablets work for my very travel sick children. They are amazing. Can cause drowsiness though.

I have great sympathy for your son - I have suffered with travel sickness since I was little and unfortunately have never grown out of it. I wish there was some sort of cure that didn’t involve medication - the medication itself makes me feel unwell so it’s no use to me either.

I see from above people suggest not eating, but having something in my tummy actually sometimes helps me - a couple of crackers or a slice of toast.

I’m not sure what to suggest, I was hoping I’d read a miracle cure on here - maybe that’s still to come so il keep my eyes peeled for it!

Your poor ds, he really suffers doesn't he. Its hideous, I've never grown out of it either.
I always have Kwells on standby, I tend to take half the recommended dose, it's enough to take the edge off but without the drowsiness. Has he tried taking half the dose for his meds?

I was also once given a tip of sniffing half a lemon on a boat trip once. It seemed to do the trick! I'm not sure if it was the lemon or taking lots of deep breaths 🤷‍♀️He might be able to do that discreetly on public transport?!

You can also get those wristbands that are meant to work on a pressure point, not sure how good they are.

Good luck, hope he finds something that works. It is truly horrible.

I was given phenergan for really bad morning sickness (throwing up 24/7 numerous times 'morning' sickness). It was really effective, but did turn me into a bit of a zombie!
