Tips for recovering from adult tonsillectomy

I posted yesterday in AIBU but thought it might make more sense here. I'm having my second tonsillectomy this week. I remember how awful the pain was after last time around 6 years ago. I'm now in my 40s and expecting it to be I pleasant. Just wondering if there are any recommendations to make it more manageable?
Thanks!

I had mine out as an adult about ten years ago things I remember doing
Having a humidifier in the bedroom at night to help prevent throat drying out
Drying to drink fluids constantly literally a small sip every 5 to 10 minutes
Try to drink in the night too to stop your throat drying put
take pain killers at regular times again also through the night and don’t wait for the pain to increase
Eat scratchy foods and avoid dairy/Ice cream which coat the throat and scabs in a kind of film
Even a small sign of bleeding get to the doctors for anti biotics
Drink room temperature drinks and for gods sakes on day 10 )around about the the time the scabs start to come off, when you’re starting to feel better don’t go to a cafe and have your first hot drink! I ended up in hospital after this BUT I am one of nature’s bleeders so I’m amazed I got to day 10!

Thank you!
And I'll definitely take that on board. We used to have a humidifier. Maybe I need to get another 🙈

Take the painkillers would be my advice.
I still look fondly at packets of Solpadeine as having saved my sanity!

I'll add solpadeine to my list! Thank you!

I had plastic shot glasses with the correct measured adult doses of ibuprofen/paracetamol because for me taking tablets was just too painful. Before I got mine out I laughed at the people that said to set alarms in the night to take something every 2-4 hrs but after two nights that's exactly what I did and it massively helped. Alternate the paracetamol and ibuprofen so you can take something regularly.

I also agree with the humidifier.

I was a slightly more complex case as I have a bleeding disorder and my wounds were quite large (likely due to the years of me begging to have them out and being told no!) so I did stay overnight, and I did end up back in HDU after 4 days at home, but I was absolutely fine once the infection cleared, I felt great about 4 days after I went home the second time. it's been 8 years now and I am much healthier with them out and I'd 100% do it again.

Thank you!

I'm glad it was a positive thing for you in the end. I'll take that advice on board.

Straws! I found tipping my head back to drink and swallowing was really painful, much easier to sip with a straw.

I have a pack in the cupboard. Thank you!

Did anyone have tramadol for when the pain got really bad?
