Really BAD teething stories please!

Our DD is currently in week 5 of teething hell and no one we know is having it as bad as us so we're beginning to think she's just the worst teether ever. At its worst she's waking half an hour after she goes down (when she eventually goes down), and is up screaming pretty constantly for the rest of the night. Sleeping in our bed helps but she still only sleeps fitfully.

Before this she had just started sleeping 12 hours a night ...

During the day she's sometimes OK but lately has got really grumpy, hard to settle for naps, off her food and won't let me leave her for a second.

Have tried: Calpol, Calgel, Bonjela, Medised, Nurofen, Teetha granules, Ashton & Pearson powders ...

Getting very overwhelmed by all this. People told me things would get better after the early few weeks of exhaustion and misery. Nobody warned me about this.

Please share your experiences.

Zinger

I had hell with dd teething, she had the full range of foul nappies leading to nappy rash, bright red cheeks, temperature up to 40 degress, grumpy, not sleeping.

ds is now 14 months. He woke every hour or 2 until he was 13 months (got the molars at 12 months), he had /just/ started sleeping through last month and the eye teeth started coming this week (don't know if I'm sadder for me or him TBH). On Tuesday night/Wednesday morning he woke at 1am and /didn't go back to sleep until 7pm/.

I reserve a special dislike of people who say, 'And I woke up in the monring and another tooth had popped out, I had no idea he/she was teething' just because I'm so jealous of them

Zinger, I forgot to add that dd managed to spring back in to her previous sleep pattern as soon as the pain was over, with little encouragement from me.

HTH

Hope you have a better night tonight...

Needed to hear that Clayhead! Night before last was certainly encouraging.

alibo · 18/11/2004 20:48

spacemonkey, are you out there? just to say gnawing my own limbs off is looking like an attractive option at the moment!? last night ds was awake from 3.45am till 9am, bar half an hour between 6.15 and 6.45
