I'm getting a bit freaked out now

I've never been particularly anxious about my health but DH died this year after putting off going to the doctor for too long (which may or may not have made a difference) and I'm now acutely aware that I am all DC have.

I have a cold. I feel pretty rough, but not more than bad cold territory. I've sent of a PCR test because it does include a slight cough, but I'm not really expecting it to be positive. I've had Covid before and am double vaxxed.

However I've developed a pain in my chest. Left hand side, basically where my boob is, but in the chest not in the breast iyswim. A dull ache with an intermittent sharper pain.

All tied up with the cold and it will pass?

Could be musculoskeletal ? Chest infection ? Worse on breathing in ? Are you coughing anything up ?
Depends how bad it is and how long you've had it, any associated symptoms like breathlessness, wheeze, ....

Hi OP

You're right, it could well be all tied up with whatever you have going on, but without further assessment it is difficult to tell. As a paramedic, i would nearly always advise chest pain be seen up at A&E - they can do a blood test there and that is a definitive way to rule in/out cardiac cause for it.
They will do an ecg as well, and if bith are clear then will give you other ideas as to what it might be.

SkinPaperThin · 09/09/2021 10:15

It could be something as simple as acid reflux (I always get pain just underneath my left boob with it) however, as you're ill as well it may be worth getting checked out by a Dr.

Allnightlong2016 · 09/09/2021 10:19

Hi, please get chest pain checked out. It’s most likely not too much to worry about but until you know it’s not to worry about you need to get it checked out. No dr/nurse/paramedic will mind you calling for help. Maybe try ringing 111?

PinkFootstool · 09/09/2021 10:21

It could be something or nothing. My mate had costochondritis with similar description of her symptoms?

CrotchetyQuaver · 09/09/2021 10:24

No I would go get that checked out as per the excellent professional advice given by the paramedic who posted above. Good luck!

Betsybanshee · 09/09/2021 10:26

Chest pain should always be checked out
Chances of it being anything really sinister are low.

So sorry about your DH Flowers

LegendaryReady · 09/09/2021 10:27

OK. So how do you get it checked out?

Surely not an ambulance and no way to get a GP appointment today.

Have you called the GP to ask for an emergency appointment? Do they run e-Consult? Go to a walk in clinic?

LegendaryReady · 09/09/2021 10:31

You can't even get through in the mornings. If there's more than 10 in the queue it doesn't let you join it. Can't just turn up either, they won't let you in the building.

Sorry for your loss

Call 111. If it's an emergency or they're worried they'll get you an appointment

Betsybanshee · 09/09/2021 10:57

Have you checked if you can do an E-consult via your GP's website?

My GP practice do this since covid you are then triaged and contacted either with a call or a face to face appointment.

CrotchetyQuaver · 10/09/2021 09:28

I'd keep trying your GP, I've had to contact both mine and my dads this week and was able to secure face to face appointments for both of us after being completely upfront with the receptionist about everything.

sadie9 · 10/09/2021 13:09

Could be pleurisy which can happen after a cold. GP will know from the symptoms.
