Angular cheilitis

I'm wondering if anyone has any remedies for
Angular chelitis (dry, cracking skin in the corners of the mouth) - I have this currently, it's very sore and painful and I need it to clear up ASAP as I am maid of honour at a wedding this Saturday!!!

So far I've applied Daktarin cream, sudocrem and coconut oil, nothing seems to improve it.

Any ideas?

Oh there’s a medicine for this over the counter

Hang on

SpringlikeBunk · 07/09/2021 19:27

Argh it was Daktarin I used which I see you’ve tried , sorry and only other thing which worked for me is blisteze ointment which may have been discontinued

I get this from time to time and use a combination of hydracortisone 1% and Canesten. Not sure how I came across this combo but it seems to work!

I find giving up sugar and bread for a few days helps. Also avoid salty food and drink lots of water. It’s awful, hope it heals in time!

CandleWick4 · 07/09/2021 19:32

I get this, I use the Daktatin, make sure I keep the area dry (I tend to drink through a straw as well), normally clears up in 4/5 days.

CatherineCawood · 07/09/2021 19:33

canesten and knocking sugar on the head usually works for me.

Shhhhhhhshh · 07/09/2021 19:33

I get this regularly. It goes hand in hand with being iron deficient for me.

Zovirax cold sore patches clear it up within 24-48 hours. Come back again though unless I get on the ferrous sulphate.

This might sound weird but I put plasters on my face at night to sort of pull the skin so it wasn't constantly damp. I also applied a cream that was prescribed, might have been daktarin - but be aware there are different types of daktarin.

Iron and vitamin b, not sure if it will work quickly enough but if you take high doses initially with the topical stuff should help.

EducatingArti · 07/09/2021 21:30

Mine always improved with high dose bit B

Delatron · 07/09/2021 22:08

I had this over summer. Normally Berroca sorts it out. It didn’t this time and was only when I started taking high strength vitamin C that it cleared up. That may be a link to iron though too as I know iron is absorbed better with vitamin c.

RoseAndGeranium · 07/09/2021 22:24

I’ve had most luck with vitamin B. Hope you find something that sorts it and that you’re healed up for the wedding, OP.

mibbelucieachwell · 07/09/2021 22:26

Daktacort. Says not to use on your face but is okay for a few days. Mine starts when I eat yeast. The worst offender is yeast extract which is in loads of things. I never ever eat it now.

PeachesPumpkin · 07/09/2021 22:27

Iron tablets and get checked for Coeliac disease.

Thank you everyone for your replies! It's much better today for the wedding but not totally gone. I'll share what I did for anyone who's desperate for it to go in future....its a bit unconventional...but I read on another forum to use hand sanitiser the type that kills 99% of bacteria and viruses! It stings but it really helped speed up the healing. That and hydrocortisone cream.
Thanks again for everyone's help
