Should I see a GP after scratching off a mole?

When I was getting changed yesterday I felt a little dry bump on my side/back, like a scab. I gently ran a nail over it and felt it come off. Then I thought, shit, don't I have a mole there?! Went to the best-lit mirror I have, which is on the cabinet over the bathroom sink, and examined it. It was bleeding a tiny bit. Seeing the location, I'm 99% certain it was a mole that I've scratched right off. I then saw that the dark brown scab/mole was caught under my fingernail Blush, but even as I looked it fell out and down the plughole Hmm

I know that scratching a mole can't make it become cancerous, but I'm worried by the new scabby nature of it that caused me to pick at it. This has never happened with any of my (many, many) moles. Is it worth seeing the GP, or will they find me ridiculous for showing them a tiny new scab on my side with no evidence that it was ever a mole, and nothing to examine for potential cancer cells? When the little wound heals, is there a chance there be a bit of the mole left and I could show them that?

I had one once on my cheek that I must have scratched it and it went. Has left a slight bump just as before, but no mole. Dr wasn't interested.

You can't scratch off a mole as they are inside the skin. Sounds like it was a seborrheic keratosis. I have loads. They're itchy and get caught on clothing sometimes and bits come off. You can get them frozen off by a dermatologist.

I have lots of moles and had a new itchy one appear on my face. Dr took one look and said it wasn't a mole at all, but some kind of wart - could scratch it off but it would bleed. Very common. It disappeared after a few weeks. So maybe you should ask for advice but it sounds as if perfectly harmless.

Kittii thanks, I've never heard of those! This thing didn't itch and I never noticed any scaliness until yesterday. Could it still be a seborrheic keratosis?

I think I already knew that moles are not just on the surface of the skin, but I suppose if one scabs over, you can pick off the scab and leave the mole underneath? Maybe I should wait and see if there's anything left after the new little scab disappears. Are there ever any marks left after a seborrheic keratosis comes off?

Definitely sounds like sebhorreic keratosis. They tend to be dry and scaly, and can be scratched off (I’m always doing it), so I wouldn’t be too worried about it.
